1. Swedish data: GSK flu vaccine causes narcolepsy and catalepsy in children

New data from Sweden today added more evidence of a link between a 2009 H1N1 influenza vaccine and narcolepsy in children and adolescents, suggesting that those who were vaccinated had more than a sixfold increase in risk for the condition. The findings come from a study by Sweden's Medical Products Agency (MPA), which examined all cases of narcolepsy with cataplexy reported in young people (19 years and under) in Sweden in 2009 and 2010. The study follows an earlier investigation that covered four regions and showed a fourfold increase in risk of narcolepsy in those who received the Pandemrix H1N1 vaccine, made by GlaxoSmithKline. "These new data from Sweden provide strengthened evidence that vaccination with Pandemrix is associated with an increased risk for narcolepsy with cataplexy in children and adolescents," the report states.

The Child Cases: Tainted Medical 'Experts' Imprisoning People

Tammy Marquardt, now 39, spent 14 years in prison for a crime she didn't commit
Medical and legal experts often disagree on how to determine the cause of a child's unexpected death. One result is that parents sometimes are wrongly accused of murder and sent to prison. No place has uncovered a bigger problem — or dealt with it more directly — than Ontario, Canada. Marquardt is one of at least a dozen people prosecuted for killing children in Ontario based on what later turned out to be tainted medical evidence. Courts in just the past few years have overturned several of those convictions, and more are under review.

Update on Bradley Manning from His Lawyer

Bradley Manning supporters will be marching at London Pride, July 2nd
A couple days ago I did a post on the support contingents for Bradley Manning, the accused whistleblower to WikiLeaks, which participated in the LGBT pride parades that took place in the United States during the weekend. I was asked how Manning was doing but had no update. Now, Manning’s lawyer David Coombs has posted an update on Manning. From his blog: It has been a little over two months since PFC Manning was moved from Quantico to the Joint Regional Corrections Facility (JRCF) at Fort Leavenworth. Since being moved to the JRCF, PFC Manning’s overall mood and demeanor has greatly improved. PFC Manning is able to maintain regular contact with his defense team. He receives weekly written updates, phone calls and visits from defense counsel. In addition, he receives regular visits from family. Finally, PFC Manning also receives hundreds of letters from supporters every week. He wishes to extend his sincere a ppreciation to those who have taken the time to send along their thoughts and well-wishes. Lt. Choi said: “Bradley Manning is not a hero because he is gay. He is a hero because he rejected war crimes.” London Pride on July 2nd – Bradley Manning supporters will be out marching.

Anonymous Launches HackerLeaks

You download it, we'll disclose it for you
Despite countless WikiLeaks copycats popping up since the secret-spilling site first dumped its cache of State Department cables last year, the new generation of leaking sites has produced few WikiLeaks-sized scoops. So instead of waiting for insider whistleblowers, the hacker movement Anonymous hopes that a few outside intruders might start the leaks flowing. Earlier this week members of the hacker collective, and specifically a sub-group known as the People’s Liberation Front, (PLF) launched two new leaking sites, LocalLeaks.tk (not to be confused with the similarly named Localeaks.com) and HackerLeaks.tk. But while LocalLeaks aims to use WikiLeaks’ model of insider sources to expose corruption on the local scale, HackerLeaks openly invites data thieves to upload documents through its submission system, so that they can be analyzed and publicized. “You download it, we’ll disclose it for you,” the site’s homepage reads, listing potential booty such as “databases, exploits, security flaws, documents, and email spools.” Commander X commented that part of that unique role is that HackerLeaks will be legal, despite publishing hacked materials. “We don’t obtain this material. We merely publish it. This violates no sane law anywhere.”
