'Former European commissioner Mario Monti has been nominated by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano to become the country's new prime minister, one day after Silvio Berlusconi resigned.
"Senator Mario Monti was given the task of forming the government," AFP quoted a spokesman for the president as saying to reporters.The 68-year-old economics professor arrived at the residence of Napolitano on Sunday, who held crisis talks with parliamentary leaders on setting up a new government of technocrats.'
