Newt gets it

Remarks of Newt Gingrich before the Republican Jewish Coalition’s 2011 California Summer Bash, June 12, 2011

Thank you for the opportunity to be with you this evening.

It is good to be among such close friends.

I have known Sheldon and Miriam for a very long time indeed, and it is wonderful to be with you both tonight. I treasure our friendship and I salute you both for your well deserved award and recognition for all the hard work you do to keep America safe, free, and prosperous.

I also wish to salute the work of the Republican Jewish Coalition. The work that you do to champion free enterprise and America as a force for good in the world is more vital than ever.

As we gather this evening, America is in the midst of an economic crisis.

More Americans are without jobs, and for longer periods of time, than at any time in our history since the Great Depression.

I am running for President to lead a movement of Americans who will insist on changing Washington so we can renew...

If the NGO’s are not breaking the law, why should we restrict their financing. Outlaw their activities instead

By Ted Belman

I recently posted my article Who is being undemocratic? The Left or the Right?

The government is proposing legislation that applies to “political NGO’s”. The bill’s explanatory notes state explicitly that it is intended to deal with “organizations acting in the guise of human rights organizations that seek to influence the political discourse, character and policies of the State of Israel.”

The Bill would ban “political” non-governmental organizations from receiving donations of over NIS 20,000 from foreign governments or international organizations.

I went on to argue that controlling outside money in this way supports democracy rather than undermines it.

Today I started a conversation with a former Israeli ambassador whom I knew and knew to be on the left. We got to talking about this legislation and he argued that any restrictions on foreign funds should also restrict Jewish billionaires (Adelson) who buy a paper, Israel Hayom, in...

It Pays to be Jewish

By Ted Belman

As far back as the seventies, my orthodox father-in-law used to argue that gentiles have more respect for authentic Jews than for assimilated Jews. There is something attractive about a people or person who is proud of his heritage and lives by its precepts. As you know this idea ran contrary to the prevailing view held by progressive Jews that the more they emulated the gentiles, the more they would be accepted. He was right. Just look at the affinity of the Christian Right in the US for the Jewish settlers and their fight to keep the land.

Paul Eidelberg makes the same point in his important book “Jewish Statesmanship.”

“Contrary to the expectations of Jewish politicians and intellectuals who, out of fear of anti-Semitism, mindlessly portray Israel as a democracy so as to endow it (and themselves) with legitimacy and respectability, it is precisely this lack of Jewish national authenticity – this adulation of decayed democratic values – that...

Jews. The Moral Vanity of Israel’s Leftist Jewish Critics

The author of this article is an expat American who made aliya a couple of years ago and is now my neighbour. Adam was hired to manage and write for CIF Watch. CIF stands for Comment is Freewhich is a part of the notorious Guardian. Why was he hired? Because he is a terrific writer. In future, I will be posting more of his excellent work. Ted Belman

by Adam Levick

Ben Murane, an American Jew and head of New Generations for the left-wing lobbying group New Israel Fund, recently wrote an essay, under his blogging pseudonym KungFuJew, titled, “Reinterpreting Jewish communal service”.

The essay attempts to “reinterpret” Jewish communal service in universal terms and represents the quintessential guilt of liberal diaspora Jews over Jewish particularism.

Writes Murane:

Accused, I was, of not caring enough for those other than Jews…of working only for Jews.

Murane has been accused of the sin of working for an organization which focuses primarily on the...

MKs Propose to Stop Leftist Groups from Abusive Lawsuits

A new proposal would prevent leftist groups from unilaterally suing on behalf of alleged “victims” when those victims do not wish to sue.
By David Lev, INN

A new proposal by Likud MKs Danny Danon and Yariv Levin promises to put an end to the uniquely Israeli phenomenon of “do-gooder” groups taking it upon themselves to represent in petitions before the High Court individuals or groups that they judge to have been harmed.

The phenomenon is most prevalent when leftist groups representing Arabs seeking to dislodge Jews from property and homes by claiming ownership; the Arabs are generally not a party to the petition, but the court, when asked to, often takes these cases on.

More often than not, it rules in favor of the Arabs – without their having even signed an agreement to allow the groups to represent them.

According to the new law, groups would be allowed to file petitions on the part of complainants only if the latter attach their names to the petition.

Obama sets back democracy by supporting radicals rather than moderates

How the Obama Administration Helps Kill the Chances for Arab, Turkish, and Iranian Democracy

By Barry Rubin? PJ Media

In a speech, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asks:

“Why does America promote democracy one way in some countries and another way in others?”

Here’s how the question should be rephrased:

Why does America subvert the chances for democracy one way in some countries and another way in others?

Here’s the answer:

In some places—notably Iran, Syria, and the Gaza Strip—America does nothing to promote democracy and the downfall of anti-American regimes because it is afraid to challenge the dictatorships. In fact, at times it comes to their aid and comfort.

In Iran, it did so by wasting two years on engagement and by failing to back the democratic opposition, even at the height of protests over a stolen election.

In Syria, by coddling the dictatorship until that became too obviously gruesome in backing such a bloodthirsty regime during an all-out revolt....

Christian Zionism in Historical Perspective

In several books and many more articles and public lectures, Professor Paul Merkley has described the part that Christian friends of Israel played in bringing about the creation of the State in 1948 and sustaining it against its enemies ever since.

Now he takes us back to the origins of Christian Zionism in exegesis of Scripture and recalls the story of Christian attitudes towards the Jews over the two millennia since the destruction of the Second Temple. Confronting the historical distortions of the anti-Zionists, he provides a calm, proud and scholarly defense of Christian Zionism. For readers seeking a deeper understanding of Christian attitudes towards Israel, this is a must read.

The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your own country, your kinsmen, and your father’s house, and go to a country that I will show you. I will make you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name so great that it shall be used in blessings:
Those that bless you I will bless,
    Those...

Obama may have to prove his eligibility yet

New Hampshire wakes up to Obama’s alleged Social Security fraud …
Hearing Friday as state lawmakers also probe president’s eligibility

By Bob Unruh, © 2011 WND

A hearing, with the apparent support of two state lawmakers, is scheduled before the New Hampshire Ballot Law Commission to hear a complaint filed by Orly Taitz that alleges Barack Obama has used fraudulent documents and a fraudulent Social Security number.
The hearing is scheduled Friday at 2 p.m. in Room 307 of the New Hampshire Legislative Office Building, and Taitz is encouraging the public to be present.

The state holds the first presidential primary Jan. 10, 2012.

On her website, Taitz said state Rep. Harry Accornero had said he was joining in her complaint, and she expects Rep. Larry Rappoport also to be in attendance. The lawmakers could not be reached immediately for comment.

“Let’s hope the elections board of New Hampshire will have the decency to refuse Obama to...

Time to rehabilitate Portugal’s Dreyfus

by Michael Freund, The Jerusalem Post

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of an unsung Jewish hero,Captain Arthur Carlos de Barros Basto.

His exploits extended from the battlefields of World War I to the struggle to reclaim crypto-Jewish identity, but this intrepid figure met a cruel and unwarranted end at the hands of Portugal’s dictatorial regime. Despite the passage of so many decades, the injustice committed against him cries out for resolution. The time has come to give this man his due.

Barros Basto came from a family of Bnei Anusim (whom historians refer to by the derogatory term “Marranos”), descendants of Jews whose ancestors had been forced to convert to Catholicism in the 15th century.

Raised a Catholic, he went on to become a decorated soldier who commanded a Portuguese infantry company in World War I, where he fought in the trenches of Flanders and took part in the allied offensive to liberate Belgium.

After the war Barros Basto...
