by Khaled Abu Toameh, GATESTONE INSTITUTE In a daring and unprecedented move, Jordanian politicians, academics, political activists and media figures have sent a letter to King Abdullah urging him to end discrimination against Jordanians of Palestinian origin. The letter serves as a warning to the monarch that the Palestinian majority in the kingdom would one day revolt against continued oppression and discrimination. Prof. Paul Eidelberg, President – Israel–America Renaissance Institute Part I. Introduction Will Israel or the United States strike Iran before it deploys ballistic tipped nuclear weapons? Why this belated question? Why has America, the most powerful nation in the world, refrained from launching a preemptive strike against a regime whose president has the audacity to scream “Death to America”? Given the deadly attacks on American forces by Iranian proxies in the past, should the malediction by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad be deemed a casus belli and elicit some sort of U.S. military attack on Iran? MK Arieh Eldad discusses the phenomenon of Arab and Bedouin construction without building permits or zoning approval. On this week’s episode of Walter’s World with Walter Bingham: If you are a Jewish youth, you might erect a hut on an Israeli hilltop as a centre for your excursions and to have fun with your friends. However it will most likley be quickly be spotted by the regular aerial surveysconducted by Jewish organisations like Peace Now. These groups then report the building activity to the army and it will then be demolished within a very short time. By Elizabeth Blade, ISRAEL TODAY This is part two of a three-part series on Kurdish efforts toward statehood, and that potential state’s future relations with Israel. If you have not done so already, we recommend first reading Quest for an Independent (Israel-friendly?) Kurdistan – Part I Dr. Michael Eppel, an expert specializing in the Kurdish history at the University of Haifa, believes that the creation of semi-autonomous Kurdish regions that merge into one body is a likely eventuality. “The Kurds are currently facing a lot of problems, bogging down their dream of a unified state,” he explained. “First of all, they are divided. Although they all share the yearning for independence, I am not sure that each of the groups knows what exactly that means and how to cooperate on the matter,” Eppel told the magazine. The Regavim movement calls to enforce building laws against Arabs and Jews equally, and to destroy a PA outpost near Hevron. While state attorneys continue to debate the fate of Migron, Arabs living under the Palestinian Authority build illegally with no consequences, the Regavim movement charges. The movement filed suit in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, calling to demolish an illegal PA outpost next to the Israeli town of Pnei Hever in the Hevron Hills. The outpost was built in Area C – territory which, under the Oslo Accords, is under Israeli administration. However, it was built without planning or permits. The peace relationship established in 1978-9 between Israel and Egypt constituted a significant and groundbreaking change in the entire mindset of the international community, in general, and in Middle East relationships, in particular. It was a revolutionary change in the entire concept of Middle East political, military, economic, and social relationships that laid the foundation for the ensuing Middle East peace process between Israel and its other neighbors. In Article III of the peace treaty, Egypt and Israel undertake: “to ensure that acts or threats of belligerency, hostility, or violence do not originate from and are not committed from within its territory, or by any forces subject to its control or by any other forces stationed on its territory.”Anti-Palestinian Discrimination in Jordan-Now It’s Official
But all indications are that King Abdullah still has not realized the approaching tornado. Instead of embarking on real and meaningful reforms and combating rampant rampant financial and administrative corruption, he has directed his energies against Jordanians of Palestinian origin. The king is already being threatened by the powerful and popular Muslim Brotherhood; he may soon have to face an even bigger threat.
