"On Hold"
As this is written, nothing has transpired yet in Migron. Nor has the Court delivered a finding on the matter.
~~~~~~~~~~
Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, before going to the Non-Affiliated Movement conference in Iran, gave a press conference. Not referring to Israel directly but clearly alluding to Israel, he said:
"Egypt is practicing its very normal role on its soil and does not threaten anyone and there should not be any kind of international or regional concerns at all from the presence of Egyptian security forces."
The military campaign, he declared, was in "full respect to international treaties."
Well, I rather doubt that the military campaign fully respected Egypt's treaty with Israel. And I note his reference to a "very normal role on its soil," which implies -- erroneously -- that Egypt can proceed as it sees fit in Sinai.
What I believe we do have here, however, is a statement that no Egyptian hostilities are intended beyond the border of Sinai.
The somewhat garbled reports I'm picking up from various news sources lead to the suspicion that agreements have been reached with the Bedouin who guard the terrorists that would -- as far as the Egyptians are concerned -- preclude the need for further military action against the jihadists. That is, quiet of a sort has been bought. If reports are correct, there is a withdrawal of troops in process. But this leaves Israel nowhere, with nothing.
However, while I'm reading about withdrawal of troops, I'm picking up nothing about tank withdrawal. It will be some time until this situation plays out sufficiently for conclusions to be drawn but it certainly generates great unease.
I cannot let this pass:
It was announced recently that over 600 rabbis have signed a letter of support for Obama. The Obama administration is touting this in the Jewish community as proof that Jews -- and not just Jews but rabbis! -- are for him.
"Their ringing endorsement of President Obama speaks volumes about the President’s deep commitment to the security of the state of Israel and his dedication to a policy agenda that represents the values of the overwhelming majority of the American Jewish community," said Ira Forman, the Obama campaign Jewish Outreach Director.
But a closer look at the list is exceedingly unsettling.
Quite simply, the list includes rabbis who take stances that are anti-Israel. A sampling of rabbis who signed: One is a JStreet advisor, one had lunch with Ahmadinejad, several are for boycotts against Israel, and eight are on the rabbinical council of Jewish Voices for Peace. This council is way, way, radically to the left -- its chair, for example, co-founded "Jewish fast for Gaza," and its blog has taken the name "Palestinian talmud." Charming, no?
For additional details -- enough to make your hair stand on end -- on some of these rabbis and others:
The point has been made that either the Obama campaign didn't vet the list, or vetted and simply didn't care who was on it -- neither possibility saying good things about how he operates. What is more, serious questions have to be asked about the willingness of rabbis who are not anti-Israel to be associated via this list with those who are.
You can see further on this here:
And you can see the full list here:
It's important to deal with this so that people not be misled about what's going on, or, more candidly, not be taken in.
