Could England Cricket Hero Be Tory MP?
It's the last week of silly season and this year's selection of summer folly has gone out with a bang. On Wednesday Guido got wind of a rumour that Tory supporter and England cricketing hero Andrew Strauss was being lined up as the Conservative Corby candidate who could hit Labour's Andy Sawford for six. Local Tories were quickly on the case, before the bookies slashed the odds from 50/1 to just 8/1. All the papers ran the story but this morning rained stopped play as CCHQ revealed Strauss had missed the Corby deadline. Though they didn't rule him out for 2015...

Away from such silliness there was some serious trouble for Tim Yeo this week. After the shameless chairman of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee wrote a piece in the Telegraph demanding more flights to China, Guido revealed that Yeos' company TMO Renewables had signed a big new contract in - that's right - China. There was more Tory trouble on Bank Holiday Monday as Nadine Dorries fired both barrels at Louise Mensch, before Louise was finally made an ex-MPNadine might not miss her, but Guido will...

No silly season would be complete without the loony left making collective fools of themselves. First George Monbiot vindicated his Moonbat nickname by hoping that the Republican National Convention would be flooded, before union fat cat Bob Crow squirmedhis way out of questions about his council house. If that were not enough Dolly Draper's business then went bust before Labour wonk-shop IPPR's report on wind power turned out to be a load of hot airNext week normal business resumes...
