1. David Cameron is even more stuffed than we thought. When a Cameroon Wormtongue as assiduous and slimy as Yeo starts going so flagrantly off-message, you know the ship really is thinking.
2. The third runway is clearly a much, MUCH worse idea than any of us may hitherto have imagined. Personally I was quite pro the idea till Yeo gave it his endorsement. I now recognise that the only solution to Britain's air traffic problems must be the rival Boris Island scheme.
3. It's likely, given his past form on wind farms, that
"Trougher" Yeo stands to benefit from the enterprise he is promoting. And, yep, sure enough,
Guido has the dirt.
Yeo is not one to intervene unless he has a dog in the fight. So imagine Guido’s surprise at some other news today from
Biofuels International:
“Developer of second generation biofuels technology TMO Renewables has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the authorities of Heilongjiang, China. The MoU will see TMO provide long-term large volume biomass feedstock supply for future bio-fuel production facilities from Heilongjiang State Farm, the largest state owned farming corporation in China.”
And who is the well paid
Chairman of TMO Renewables? Step forward one Mr. Tim Yeo. The day his company sign a new deal in China, Yeo uses his position as Chairman of the Energy Select Committee to lobby for more direct flights from London to China.
So that seems to explain that, then.
"….which would cost taxpayers a fortune". Eh? But we know that in actual fact Yeo LOVES projects which cost taxpayers a fortune. That's why he's so heavily into "renewables" – an industry quite incapable of surviving without massive taxpayer subsidy.
"an evidence-based reappraisal." Yeo appears to be implying here he likes things which are "evidence-based." But how can this possibly be when we know that he is an enthusiastic advocate of wind farms, for whose benefits there is no "evidence-based" evidence whatsoever.
"…and could be the start of a desperately needed programme to make Britain the most business-friendly country in Europe." Yes. That'll be why Yeo is so keen to make energy more expensive by rejecting cheap, abundant shale gas and pushing for "renewables" (in which, did we mention this?,
he has extensive financial interests). Because he cares so much about business. (Well, at least, businesses friendly enough to pay him £555 an hour for his expertise).
"Tim Yeo is Conservative MP for Suffolk South….". Surely some mistake?
"….and chairman of the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee." No, that would be ridiculous. Absurd. No way would a man of Yeo's stature ever accept such a position: the potential conflict of interest with his various business side-projects is so manifest that it would look like a perfect disgrace and render him quite incapable of performing such an important job even adequately, let alone well….
