Report: Two U.S. Drones Accidently Land At Al-Anad Airbase In Yemen; Enraged Aviation Students Destroy Drone Remnants

On September 6, 2012, the Yemeni news website barakish.net reported that two U.S. drones accidentally landed in a military site inside Al-Anad airbase in Yemen, after overshooting their designated landing site on the base. Although there were no injuries, enraged Yemeni aviation students residing on base destroyed the remains of one of the drones, which had crashed into their dormitory.

Jihadi Suggests Novel Method For Downing Passenger Aircraft, Targeted Assassinations

On September 6, 2012, Al-Fida' jihadi forum member "Al-Jeddawi" proposed a new, and, he claimed, undetectable method for smuggling explosives onboard passenger airplanes for the purpose of bringing them down. He added that the same method could be used in targeted assassination of VIPs.

Leading Jihadi Forum Posts Purported Footage Of U.S. Drones Hovering Over Yemen

On September 4, 2012, the prominent jihadi forum Al-Fida' published supposed footage of U.S. drones hovering in the skies over Hadhramaut, Yemen. According to the video, posted on YouTube on September 2, there were at least three drones positioned over the city. 

Prominent Jihadi Cleric To Mujahideen: Do Not Confront Mursi's Administration; Take Advantage Of It To Spread Our Ideology

The jihadi website Minbar Al-Tawhid Wal-Jihad has posted a fatwa by a member of its shari'a committee, Abu Mundhir Al-Shinqiti, about Mursi's electoral victory in Egypt. Responding to a reader who asked how the mujahideen should regard this victory, Al-Shinqiti advised the mujahideen to not to pin too much hope on Mursi, because he does not intend to implement the laws of the shari'a in Egypt. At the same time, he advised them not to confront Mursi's administration, so as to avoid compromising their main goal, which is spreading the jihadi ideology.

Two Jihad Commanders In Syria Reported Dead

The jihadi website Shumoukh Al-Islam has posted a communiqué by the jihad group Fath Al-Islam Fi Bilad Al-Sham, which announces the death of the group's commander, Abu Hussam Al-Shami. The communiqué, dated September 4, 2012, states that Al-Shami, 40 years old, was killed after being ambushed by the Syrian forces on the Damascus-Der'a road. It also states that Al-Shami's real name was 'Abd Al-'Aziz Al-Kurkali, and that he was jailed by the Syrian regime many times.

Shumoukh Al-Islam Encourages The Use Of Facebook's Event Application To Disseminate Jihadi Productions

On September 5, 2012, "Barbaros," a member of the prominent jihadi forum Shumoukh Al-Islam, published a post encouraging Jihadis who are active on Facebook to make use of the event application to disseminate jihadi productions to a large audience. The post, rated by the forum's admins as a "distinguished topic," included images showing steps users should follow to publish materials by using the event application. According to the post, the "event" application is more practical in reaching out to thousands of people in a matter of seconds because friends can be invited, messages can be sent to the entire group, and publishing manually is time consuming and risks termination of the account.

Kavkaz Center Accuses Russian Cybersecurity Firm Of Launching Ongoing DDoS Attacks Against Its Website Using 'Kaspersky Antivirus' Software

On August 19, 2012, the Kavkaz Center (KC), a website affiliated with the Caucasus Emirate (CE), claimed that Eugene Kaspersky, head of Russia's largest cybersecurity firm, Kaspersky Lab, was a KGB (i.e. FSB) agent and that he was behind the ongoing DDoS attacks against the KC website
