The current wrangling over Iran between Washington and Jerusalem is essentially a battle for the agenda of the Sept. 28 meeting in New York between US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. The Israeli leader will be pressing for a US commitment to military action if Iran crosses still-to-be-agreed red lines – otherwise Israel is able to go it alone, while the White House rejects red lines as neither necessary nor useful. Neither Obama nor Netanyahu can afford to forego their get-together.
