Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad: I Did Not 'Promise' To Conduct Reforms

Following are excerpts from an interview with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, which aired on TRT Arabic TV on October 7, 2010.
3797h.jpg
Interviewer: "Until when and to what extent will Syria continue to support the resistance in Lebanon and in Palestine? After all, you are paying a price for this. You face international pressure due to your support of the resistance movements – Hizbullah in Lebanon and the Palestinian factions. To what extent will this Syrian support continue?"
Bashar Al-Assad: "As long as our stolen rights [are not restored] – whether we are talking about lands, sovereignty, threats, and so on – we will continue on this course. We have no choice. It is not as if we have dozens of options and we chose this one, and it is not because we like war and fighting. Nobody loves war and fighting unless he has lost his mind. But do we have any other option? At a time when UN resolutions are not implemented, when international politics are devoid of any moral consideration, when power prevails over logic in the world, there is no choice but to conduct resistance."

"We will continue to be fully prepared to support any development direction that would strengthen Syria economically and culturally, on both the regional and international levels.
"We will mobilize all our capabilities - in the Kingdom Holding Company and the Kingdom Hotel Investments Company - to aid Syria in any project requiring management support.
[...]
"Mr. President, whether they like it or not, Syria will continue to be the flagpole for the banner, which is planted in the heart of Greater Syria. But some people want to uproot Syria and move it elsewhere - but where? I don't know. Perhaps to Sri Lanka or Mozambique - I don't know."

British MP George Galloway At Damascus University: U.S. Army Is Defeated In Iraq. U.S. Will Not Dare To Attack Syria. Bashar Al-Assad Is The Last Arab Leader And Tony Blair Is A Slave Of Slaves

Following are excerpts from a speech given by British MP George Galloway in Damascus University, which aired on Al-Jazeera TV on November 13, 2005.
3797l.jpg
Galloway: "Condoleezza Rice has been touring the Arab countries to speak about Syria, so I have come to Syria to speak about Condoleezza Rice.
"You know, it never ceases to surprise me that Arab governments can allow a foreigner to come to their country and sit on their tables with their leaders to insult and attack another Arab country. This is the behavior of slave governments, and the Bahraini regime should have asked Condoleezza to leave when she insulted Syria in their presence, in their capital. In fact maybe it's the rulers who should leave. When she visited Cairo a few months ago, the Egyptian masses - who are still a part of the Arab world, by the way - raised the slogan about the Arab rulers: 'Give them a visa ya Condoleezza,' and I believe that this is a slogan which has not lost its meaning."

We have our Koran, we have our Prophet's Sunna. We have compassion. We have morals. We have justice - justice in itself is enough. The world has known justice only under Muslim rule.
"The day the [Crusaders] entered Jerusalem, they killed 70,000 people, the moment they entered. Western historians say– not us – that the atrocities committed by some of those Europeans, who called themselves Crusaders – and Jesus is innocent of these killings, crimes, and aggressions – they killed Muslim children and mutilated their bodies. This is written in some history books. Some of the historians have mentioned this and it is well documented. Atrocities…"
