WATCH: Guido v Owen Jones on This Morning
Worth reading what Osborne has had to say this lunchtime as well…
Evil Philpott Gets Life
Mick Philpott has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the manslaughter of six children, he will serve at least 15 years. Mairead Philpott and Paul Mosley were sentenced to 17 years each, of which they must both serve half. During sentencing the judge made reference to Mick Philpott receiving the benefits payments of his wife and mistress:
There were shouts of “die Mick die” from the public gallery as Philpott was led from the dock. You can watch Guido debate Owen Jones on ITV now…“Their wages and benefits went into your account. You did not even allow them their own door key. Everything was done for the pleasure of Michael Philpott, you had to do something extreme to get your own way and you did. The plan was to cast yourself as a hero on the night of the fire – it was a wicked and dangerous plan. You have no moral compass.”

That’ll be one for the PCC then…
A Tip-Off For the Guardian Investigations Team
Always one to help their journalists get to the bottom of the mystery, Guido suggests the Guardian’s investigations team take a look at the following:
- If GMG Hazel Acquisition 1 Limited holds no assets, why have its owners continued to pay registration fees since 2007 so it can remain an active company?
- If it does hold assets what is the total present value of GMG and associated companies’ assets held via the Cayman Islands or other offshore tax havens?
- Does GMG Hazel Acquisition 1 Limited have “sham” nominee directors, if so, who are they?

Stop the War Coalition statement on the Korea crisis
The escalating tension over North Korea, which has led to nuclear tests by the regime, is a product of a long term increase in sanctions and other measures against the North Korea, and a recent surge of US and South Korean military activity in the area. Under Operation Foal Eagle, 40,000 US and South Korean troops have been deployed in the region in the last few weeks, backed up by US submarines, battleships and bombers.
On 20 March, the Pentagon announced highly unusual flights by nuclear-capable B52 bombers over South Korea.
Recent North Korean complaints and counter-measures have been met not with attempts at dialogue or discussion but with further escalation. A second missile-carrying destroyer has been sent to join the USS John McCain, already positioned off the Korean Coast.
Rather than calling for restraint, US Secretary of State John Kerry threatened that the US would not allow North Korea to develop nuclear capacity and that it would ‘defend and protect itself and our treaty ally the Republic of Korea’.
The level of tension is extremely dangerous. We call on the US to stop stoking the tension, end its provocative military exercises, drop the sanctions and seek dialogue rather than confrontation in the region.
“We formally inform the White House and Pentagon that the ever-escalating US hostile policy toward the DPRK and its reckless nuclear threat will be smashed by the strong will of all the united service personnel and people. And cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means of the DPRK and that the merciless operation of its revolutionary armed forces in this regard has been examined and ratified.”Funnily enough no one is answering the Stop the War press hotline…

After Merkozy, Whatever Happened to Hollibande?
François Hollande is at an all-time low after the Socialist government’s “Monsieur Propre” (Mr Clean), Jérôme Cahuzac, admitted to having a “bank account abroad” for the past two decades. The former budget minister with responsibility for cracking down on tax dodgers admitted to holding €600,000 in an illegal offshore bank account at UBS Switzerland. Hollande is now facing questions about exactly what he knew and when. Scandals are arguably the least of Hollande’s worries. His flagship 75% top rate of tax has been ruled unconstitutional, wealth creators and film stars alike are fleeing his tax tyranny. This week his new supertax on companies has been shunned by business leaders, and even the left-wing press are abandoning him. As unemployment hits a 16-year high, Hollande’s approval rating is at a record low for any leader so early into his mandate. France is suffering from the disastrous consequences of electing the socialist president.
Where is Ed Miliband in all this? Last summer Ed was welcomed onto the steps of the Elysee Palace by his new best friend, declaring:
“What President Hollande is seeking to do in France and what he is seeking to do in leading the debate in Europe is find that different way forward. We are in agreement in seeking that new way that needs to be found and I think can be found.”As is plain for all to see, Hollande’s “different way forward” is dragging his country to her knees. Even Ed knows this, notice how he doesn’t seem to talk about his old pal François so much any more? France should serve as a warning to us all of what would happen under Monsieur Millibande…
