AQIM In Q&A On Twitter: We Were Not Behind Threat To Blow Up Eiffel Tower But 'We Support It And Urge All Muslims To Target France, Its Interests, And Its Citizens'

On April 18, 2013, Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) published answers to questions submitted to it via its Twitter page by various individuals and media outlets. AQIM launched its Twitter page in late March 2013. Last week, it invited individuals and media outlets to post questions on this page during a two-hour period. Its replies touch on a variety of topics, including its relationship to other Islamist groups, the French hostages it is holding, and its stance on France's military intervention in northern Mali. AQIM's replies were published in two PDF files – one in Arabic and one in English – links to which were posted on its Twitter page and later on top jihadi forums.
The following is a summary of AQIM's answers, based on the Arabic version:
AQIM Threatens France
Commenting on the recent Eiffel tower bomb threat, AQIM says that it was not the source of the threat, but that it supports it. The group urges "all Muslims to target France, its interests and citizens inside and outside the country until it withdraws its last soldier from the Muslim lands and ends its support for the oppressing rulers in the region…and for the occupying Zionist enemy…" Regarding the possibility of carrying out attacks inside France, AQIM says that it is delaying its response to France's aggression until the right moment, and stresses that retaliating against France for its aggression in Mali is a duty incumbent upon every Muslim, not only upon Al-Qaeda.

According to kavkazcenter.com, a website associated with jihadi groups in the Caucasus, the command of the Dagestan province in the Caucasus Emirate issued a statement in which the group denied any involvement in the Boston Marathon bombings.
In the statement, the group objected to the "speculative assumptions" that one of the Tsarnaev brothers, the alleged perpetrators of the Boston attack, is associated with the Caucasus Emirate. "The Caucuses Mujahideen are not fighting against the United States of America," the statement said.
Noting that it does not target civilians, the group urged U.S. media to "halt speculations and promotion of Russian propaganda."
Following is the full text of the statement:
"After the events in Boston, U.S., information has been distributed in the press claiming that one of the Tsarnaev brothers spent 6 months in Dagestan in 2012. On this basis, there are speculative assumptions that he may have been associated with the Mujahideen of the Caucasus Emirate, in particular with the Mujahideen of Dagestan."
