Will the Canadian Jewish Community Choose Trudeau’s Son Over Harper to be the net PM?

CEO of B’nai Brith Canada, Publisher of The Jewish Tribune, Chair of Modern Israel studies at Canada Christian College
The conversion of the Jewish vote from the traditional Liberal to the Conservative was not meteoric, but rather a gradual shift over a period of time.
The Jewish Liberal establishment, which had very close ties to the ruling Liberal party, was most aggressive in its strategy to maintain a stranglehold on the Jewish vote. This was evidenced both in Montreal and in Toronto and in particular along the Bathurst strip.
Every effort was made to maintain the historic relationship between the Jewish community and the Liberal Party of Canada. So strong was this connection that Jewish institutional life was radically altered when it became evident that elements within the grassroots Jewish community were beginning to view the Alliance Party, and subsequently the Conservative Party, as natural allies of the Jewish community on those issues which impacted the Jewish agenda directly.

A miniseries that aired in Germany this month has enthralled viewers with its emotional portrayal of the role that average people played in WWII. Stripped of moral pretension, it also establishes a new, multi-generational milestone in the country’s culture of remembrance.

You can Count on the Jewish State

By Michael Ordman
There is a Jewish religious obligation to count each of the 49 days between the Festival of Freedom (Passover) and the Season of the Giving of our Law (Shavuot / Pentecost).  We look forward to celebrating the high point in our history when we rose from slavery to receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai.  Today it is almost impossible to count all of the innovations, discoveries and positive activities arising from the Jewish State – so I will simply enumerate some of the latest examples.
Israel continues to advance exponentially in the field of Medical Science. For the 3rd year running, an Israeli has won Europe’s prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO “Women in Science” prize.  Osnat Zomer-Penn received this year’s award for her research into the genetic basis of autism.  Israelis Hadar Gelber-Sagiv won in 2012, and Na’ama Geva Zatursky in 2011.  Meanwhile, Israel’s biotech giant Teva had a double success in its latest medication trials.  Firstly, patients who began early treatment of Teva’s Laquinimod MS medication halted the progression of the disease.  Then Teva’s Azilect add-on treatment for Parkinson’s disease improved patients’ condition significantly.

What Really Happened in the Benghazi Murders

By Barry Rubin, PJ MEDIA
While far too late, the Obama administration may be adopting a sensible policy on Syria. The strategy, however, is unlikely to succeed. Oh, and there is also a very important clue—I think the key to the puzzle—about what really happened in Benghazi.
Let’s begin with Syria. As U.S. officials became increasingly worried about the visible Islamist domination of the Syrian opposition—which their own policies had helped promote—they have realized the horrible situation of creating still another radical Islamist regime. (Note: This column has been warning of this very point for years.)
