DAVID CAMERON is facing a revolt from party donors threatening to join UKIP and backbenchers who have warned he may have to break up the coalition to remain leader.
Lord Kalms, the multi-millionaire former Conservative party treasurer, has declared he is “willing to pack my bags” and join the UK Independence party unless the prime minister adopts a bolder stance towards Europe.
It comes just days after the UKIP leader Nigel Farage was invited to pitch to a selection of the City’s wealthiest figures at an event hosted by Crispin Odey, a financier and lifelong Tory supporter whose family is reputed to be worth £455m.
The political threat posed by Farage and his party is a source of mounting alarm in the Tory party. A growing number of the talented 2010 intake of MPs, who could play a key role in deciding Cameron’s fate, now believe their party should withdraw
