(ANSAmed) - STRASBOURG - The EU parliament today approved reforms of the Schengen treaty of free movement.
Strasbourg stressed that the decision to reintroduce internal border controls should be ''an exception'' based on ''objective criteria'' and for a limited period of time ( 10 days for emergency situations, 30 days for periods of up to six months in cases of a particular threat to internal security).
The new system also has a clause providing for unannounced visits of experts, and clearer rules for follow-up evaluations.
