Labour Order MPs to Miss EU Vote

Will Abstain on Wharton Referendum Bill
 

 
Today Guido exclusively revealed that Labour will abstain from the EU referendum vote next month. Their whips advise that "we are not asking colleagues to be in Westminster on Friday 5 July, as if there was a vote Labour will abstain on the Bill at Second Reading". Dismissing the bill as a "Tory gimmick", they say "we are suggesting colleagues do not need to be here". A small number of volunteers are however requested so "the chamber is not completely empty"Ducking the issue will not save them from the voters...


 
This week saw the demise of Tim Yeo. He had no choice but to quit as Energy and Climate Change select committee chair following the Sunday Times' sting, the Sunlight Centre For Open Politics have now reported him to the Met Police under the Bribery Act 2010. His interim replacement is almost as conflicted, though that didn't stop Shell shareholder Sir Robert Smith from taking charge.
