This week we launched our Stamp Out Stamp Duty campaign. New TPA research showed that more than a quarter of home-buyers pay the punitive rates of Stamp Duty – £7,500 or more. It creates enormous problems for anyone with a growing family and anyone who needs to move to take a new job. Stamp Duty also discourages elderly people from downsizing to a smaller property more suitable for their needs. And the structure of the tax is a mess: if the price of a property you are buying increases by just £1 over the £250,000 threshold, you will pay three times as much Stamp Duty.

It is time for the politicians to do something about this terrible tax. It is time for action.

The campaign was covered in all of the major newspapers, including the front page of The Times, and on the TV and the radio. Please write to your MP and help us keep up the pressure.

Zero hours contracts

For some people, in some jobs, zero hours contracts can work well. The tribunals are there for when things go wrong. On Channel 4 news I argued we should not overreact to the recent stories and push more people out of work.
