WHAT DOES CHINA WANT?


China went to extreme lengths to acquire these 2008 Olympic Games, which inevitably for the host nation is an invitation, a challenge even, saying: "Look at Me."


Everyone saw the professional build-up, the massive investment - all the things intended to impress us, did!


But then came the PR disaster of the 'tour d'honneur' around the world of the Olympic flame. The triumphalism of parading the symbol of the games, was compromised by the opportunity in free societies for protest, particularly on behalf of Tibet which cause has a resonance worldwide.


Now the Games are on, a massive world audience will be enjoying the feats of athleticism, and cheering on their athletes and teams. But 'events' natural and otherwise, publicity-hungry causes will impinge, if opportunity occurs, because when you invite the world to 'look at me', they will look to see more than just the superficial.


Then simply, its over!


China can then evaluate, but we now offer our take on
