Europe Threatens to Blacklist Israeli Airlines

(IsraelNN.com) Israeli airlines have received a warning from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) notifying them that if Israel cannot improve its flight safety rating, Israel could be blacklisted. The warning came after the United States lowered Israel's rating standing following near-disasters at Israel's Ben Gurion airport.
If Israel were blacklisted, Israeli planes could be forbidden to land in Europe or to fly over the area, effectively ending all Israeli airlines' flights to Europe and North America.
The Transportation Ministry said the warning was unofficial, and added that Israel's airlines and other aviation officials are doing everything possible to regain Israel's former safety rating by the end of 2009.
