Washington Divided Over Chinese Muslim Issue

China Confidential has learned that the Obama administration is deeply divided over the issue of Muslim separatism in Xinjiang.

The President, Washington insiders say, would like to issue a statement in support of the Muslim minority Uighurs. Obama is said to believe that Beijing is using Islamist terrorism as an excuse to persecute restive Muslims.

But U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is said to be urging caution. Clinton is concerned that Uighur groups have ties to Al Qaeda-associated Islamist groups, sources say.

Other administration officials, including Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, are also said to be advising against speaking out on behalf of the Uighurs because of U.S. financial dependence on China.

Geithner is also said to be opposed to criticizing China's treatment of Tibet, opaque military buildup, failure to stop North Korea from testing a ballistic missile, and support for nuclear-arming Iran.

US Navy Frees Captain, Kills Pirates

Great news.

A U.S. Navy operation rescued the merchant marine captain and restored America's honor.

Three pirates were said to have been killed in the operation to free Captain Richard Phillips, who had been held in a lifeboat since last Thursday.

This reporter is relieved--overjoyed--to have been proven wrong. The United States used force instead of allowing the lifeboat to drift to shore, as he had expected.

But, happy as this reporter is that the administration appears to have redeemed itself on Easter, which is associated with the theme of personal redemption, China Confidential stands by its overall forecast: Washington will not attack the pirates' land bases and the Islamist terrorist training camps of Al Shabab, which profits from the piracy and protects the villains. Nor will the administration authorize a naval blockade of the pirates' ports and hot pursuit of the pirates on land.

The administration is bent on appeasing radical Islam, including Islamist Iran and its proxies, Hamas and Hezbollah, under cover of "aggressive diplomacy" toward the clerical fascist foe and engagement of its supposed "moderate" factions.

Islamist terrorism and Islamist-linked piracy will continue and, except for some isolated incidents, such as today's successful action, will largely go unpunished.

On that score, one wonders if the Navy would have acted has the administration not been taken by surprise by the outpouring of anger and frustration by concerned citizens.

UPDATE: AP reports U.S. "forces opened fire on three pirates when a Navy commander made a split-second decision that Phillips' life was in danger on the lifeboat where he was being held hostage."

AFP reports:
In Washington, President Barack Obama -- who has been largely silent on the crisis -- said he was "very pleased" that Phillips had been rescued.

The captain's safety "has been our principal concern, and I know this is a welcome relief to his family and his crew," Obama said in a statement.

Obama also said that the United States remains "resolved" to combat piracy off the Somali coast.
Washington insiders tell China Confidential the President was not involved in the rescue and was actually surprised by it. There is reason to believe the operation took place in spite of the White House, not because of it.

Could Appeasement Lead to Impeachment?

Joe Biden was right when he famously put his foot in his mouth before the Presidential election by implying that Barack Hussein Obama, once installed as Commander-in-Chief, would almost immediately be tested by foreign foes.

Obama is being tested, alright, and he is failing miserably. Notwithstanding his popularity and an adoring mediaocracy, Obama's non-defense of the U.S. could lead, eventually, to calls for his impeachment.

Some predictions:

Obama's appeasement of Islamist-linked Muslim pirates will encourage piracy. As of this writing, the Obama administration appears to be relieved that the lifeboat on which a courageous American merchant marine captain has been held since last Thursday is drifting, conveniently, toward shore. The administration, as China Confidential reported yesterday, wants to avoid a clash with the pirates and their Islamist terrorist supporters, the Al Qaeda-associated Al Shabab group.

Obama's appeasement of North Korea and Islamist Iran will put the U.S. and its allies within reach of rogue-state nuclear ICBMs and force Israel into launching a preemptive war--which Washington will condemn. Its abandonment of the Jewish State is already underway.

Obama's appeasement of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Taliban and other Islamist terrorist organizations will embolden Islamists everywhere and encourage them to attack the U.S. If the nation is hit (heaven forbid) by another 9/11-like mega-attack or a Mumbai-style swarming attack, Obama, one suspects, will be inclined to respond by appealing to the Organization of the Islamic Conference for "understanding" and "dialogue." (His first instinct after 9/11 was to announce his willingness to "stand with" America's Muslim community.) Massive reprisals and retaliation will be non-starters; but intense discussion of the "root causes" of terrorism will naturally be a top administration priority--there could even be Congressional hearings!--assisted by fawning, blame-America-first liberals like Chris Matthews and David Gregory of NBC.

In short, America's first Muslim-born President (Islam traces religion through the father) is confirming the worst fears and suspicions of his critics by behaving like a tool of organized Islam. He has bowed to the Saudi tyrant--a waist-deep bow signifying submission to Islam---backed down against the North Korean Stalinist/Kimist killers, whose illegal missile test was aided by Iran; apologized for alleged American arrogance; and, by emphasizing the importance engaging "the Muslim world," elevated organized Islam, which for all practical purposes is nowadays synonymous with right-wing political Islam, or Islamism, to the level of a superpower.

His law enforcement agencies are turning a blind eye to violence-prone, Muslim supremacist mosques (as documented by Atlas Shrugs), and his State Department is even preparing to resettle whole Muslim communities in the U.S. (ahead of the possible collapse of Mexico, a failed state-in-the-making, which could flood the U.S. with enough illegal immigrants so as to threaten the viability of the southwestern states).

That the President has done all this in under three months is truly remarkable.

POSTSCRIPT: Obama will meet King Abdullah of Jordan in Washington on April 21. The King will be the first Arab leader to hold face-to-face talks in the White House since Obama took office in January. Will Obama bow from the waist to the Jordanian ruler? Probably not. The bow to the Saudi King proved too controversial, despite a mainstream media blackout that only ended after incessant blogging by Atlas Shrugs, which broke the story, and other conservative blogs (China Confidential was among the first Internet sites to report the shameful act). The President is more likely to again break protocol--Americans don't bow to foreign leaders--by lowering his head. China Confidential predicts Obama will popularize the head bow as a sign of "respect" to Muslim monarchs and mullahs
