CULTURE OF TERROR, II

“Our whole [human] race has outgrown the national state and…will pass either to a Commonwealth of Nations or to an empire of slaves.” [1]

Today one might add, click ‘A’ if you prefer “life in a world Commonwealth,” click ‘B’ if your prefer “death” in “an empire of slaves.” Thus the managers arrive at ‘A’ claiming democracy’s triumph arranged by outcome-based diplomacy, “war by other means.”

When social engineers, politicians or diplomats employ what I term the contrived or managed dialectic, of which the “alternatives” presented by Curtis are a fine illustration, “’sovereignty passes form parliament to the machine and elections are no more than a plebiscite by which a whole people puts itself in the power of a small gang.’ This, Molnar adds “is totalitarianism that promises security and destroys liberty…returning society to the uniformity of a primitive tribe.”[2]

“The one world,” Molnar continues, “the universal society will be held together forcibly, as totalitarian organizations always are.” It will be very far from the “liberal” “socialist world collective,” or “outright world socialism, scientifically planned and directed” that Wells promoted.[3] “Activists” and “educators will do all they can to spread and perfect this conception of a new world order” to sustain” political and social activities and working steadily for the collectivization of governments and economic life.”[4] This can be done steadily and presented as an accomplished fact: “just as I have suggested,” Wells added, “the United States and Great Britain may become complete socialisms unawares and it is a not impossible dream that the world may discover to its surprise that it is already practically a cosmopolis through the interweaving of ad hoc co-operations.” And since people, through this process, “will be impoverished anyhow that will help” the utopians more from “administrative control to direct administration” such that “Great Britain like America may become a Socialist system protesting all the time that it is doing nothing of the sort.”[5]

Meanwhile, seen by a contemporary esoteric, “the role of mental healers is therefore to coordinate the personality of the patient” to facilitate “enlightenment of…the Aryan race” and give “every initiate the power of magnetic [hypnotic] healing.”[6] The masses will have to be led, first by the churches, then the esoterics, then the “Planetary Hierarchy” of perfected Aryans. This is fascism, its weird context is self-serving; it defines and rules those who are not elite.

The West is being taken down to the level of servitude to which people in other areas are long accustomed, herded like beasts into a newly impoverished world to fit the model and mania of those who, infected by Darwin (as sold by T. H. Huxley), wish to reduce all people to “powerless animalism” “society is a place of experimentation” in which “the complexity of man’s nature is reduced to psychological and sociological data.” Human beings or what once were human beings “will receive instructions from a common Thought Bank” and perhaps “coalesce into one super Being [to] express man’s unity on the international level.”[7] Education, argued a psychologist in the 1950s, who read the tea leaves well, “will become a matter of counseling and orientation” with the goal of “helping students to unlearn” so that they may be “liberated from traditional and outmoded folklore and beliefs” except, clearly, the totalitarian and punitive folklore that is modern psychology.[8] A genuine freedom fighter and true intellectual who struggled to get the British and their imperial socialist game out of the Promised Land had a keen take on this “transformative” and revolutionary social engineering. “What is a chapter in the Bible according to Biblical Criticism? More or less what any healthy person is after psychoanalytical criticism: a chain of errors, neuroses and complexes. Nothing is left of the simple, precious, good person, nothing at all.”[9] It sounds like a description of what has been happening to America, not only America but especially America; why?

Because America emphasizes accountability and built into its socio-political structure great checks and balances on operational power; then what happened? The words of one of the founders are apposite: “this Constitution was meant only for a moral and religious people.” The goal of the “coercive utopians” then was to bedazzle and degrade the people and, ultimately, to terrify them into compliance once the system of media, verbal and “ideological sensationalism” has been established. People will be left as “listless and frivolous playthings authorized by sociologists and psychologists who stand by the throne of the universal despot, -- the philosopher king.”[10] The same Enlightenment that helped produce America embodied the lust for power and riotous appetites for self-indulgence and control that have helped destroy it and the entire West. From Plato to Rousseau and the thinkers he unleashed, the great writer-philosophers of the Romantic period in England “the West” has been engaged in a lengthy sloughing off of its Judaic content as its pagan, mostly Greek substrate rejects the graft. The animal remains, brilliant, unstable, dangerous and insatiable, for power is limited only by the Imagination, the “divine Redeemer, the eternal divine humanity” of Romanticism (the terms are William Blake’s) will strangle its traditional “beliefs and folklore,” killing the Father-Creator as conceived in Judaism just as human fathers are consumed in the inferno of the divorce court and “affirmative action set-asides, targets, or “plus” enhancements of “diversity” under the discredited “contact hypothesis” that difference is instructive.[11] The outcome was predetermined and the script written: America was to be taken down and with it checks on the power of the “philosopher kings” supported by the sordid buccaneers of State Corporatism. Neither the traditional family, paternal authority nor the nation that enshrined self-government and limited government to sustain maximal individual free will could be left to stand. The complaint of John Adams about “the despotism of the petticoat” in time unfurled fully serving the neo-Malthusians and their obsession with the right of “finality” they attribute to “the community” as the first principle of justice. [12]

A great and famous author, deeply at war with his Puritan roots, saw an emblem of Federal ‘care’ above the door of the customs house where he worked. His description, subtly and wryly enhanced, is relevant to our day:

Over the entrance hovers and enormous specimen of the American eagle with outspread wings, a shield before her breast and…a bunch of intermingled thunderbolts and barbed arrows in each claw. With the customary infirmity of temper that characterizes this unhappy fowl, she appears, by the fierceness of her beak and eye and her general truculence of attitude, to threaten mischief to the inoffensive community; and especially to warn all citizens…against intruding on the premises [government offices] which she overshadows with her wings. Nevertheless, many people are seeking to shelter themselves under the wing of the Federal eagle imagining, I presume, that her bosom has all the softness and snugness of an eiderdown pillow. But she has no great tenderness, even in her best moods and, sooner or later, oftener soon than late – is apt to fling off her nestlings with a scratch of her claw, a dab of her beak, or a rankling wound from her barbed arrows.[13]

Like Poe in his social-political satires of progress, positivism and progressivism, Hawthorne viewed with amused horror the self-serving bureaucracy that had sheltered only to cast him forth by a change in administration that was a process uprooting all that was “radically conservative,” courageous and sustaining in the Republic. While he spoke with droll disdain of “the periodical terrors of a Presidential election” he was quite content himself, as a party man to “abbreviating the official breath of more than one of these venerable servants of the Republic,” that is, veterans in place of a new service...

Just as promised by President “Obama,” there will be “compulsory social service” called “voluntary” in an Orwellianism Machiavelli would envy in “the Universal State” because “no private and local organizations,” initiatives or relationships can be left ‘outside the circle’ of observation, experimentation and intervention. “Committees of psychologists will argue with committees of moralists and committees of theologians until the citizen’s every last right will be licensed by half a score of governmental offices open daily from 9-5” except now we know they will be open “24/7” and be serviced solely by chains of pre-recorded messages, the voices often digital; subordination of the human for whom the utopia ostensibly is arranged is its point: “to serve man” as the “Twilight Zone” episode suggested wryly.[14]

I write with the desire to describe, inform, startle and awaken people to reclaim their lives and humanity from the lords and ladies of the new feudalism whose rhetoric of “peace and prosperity” is as flimsy as the stage machinery that supports their virtual gambits. Turn off their media, tune into history and the facts shouting to us from the thickets of clichés, and come back to what worked so well in the beginning. The Empires are disintegrating; their rulers mean for the winged monster of a new world order and its homogenized human inventory to rise from the chrysalis. An alternative may be found in the path of Abraham, the first and greatest revolutionary whose descendants gave rise to an explicitly anti-imperial way of being. Perhaps it is not yet out of reach although, in the modern mode, a master of the Empire already has sought to appropriate it to his work as envoy for the Quartet, to his new confession, and his push toward becoming the President of the EU.[15] Still, perhaps it is not too late; one must hope and try; and thus I have written and hold out my studies and experience. Footnotes:

1. Lionel Curtis, “Letter to the People of India” (1917) quoted in Erdmann, supra, 52; Curtis one perhaps the most tireless promoter of the World Commonwealth preached by the Round Table. A text with a superficial argument and notable title isThe American Commonwealth by James (later “Lord”) Bryce (1888), teacher at Oxford, MP and later an ambassador to America (1901-07) and trustee of the Carnegie Foundation.
2, Thomas Molnar, The Decline of the Intellectual (World 1960; Transaction 1994), 248 first quotes Bernard de Jouvenel then comments
3, Wells, 89-91; Wells wrote irritably of Aldous Huxley’s satire of the utopian plans (“brush that disagreeable fantasy aside” he wrote, 124) of the eugenicists and socialists in hisBrave New World. Huxley’s dystopia was an amused critique of the plans of his older brother Julian Huxley’s World Eugenic League; the elder Huxley, knighted for his work firmly believed in a fusion of “Communism and Capitalism, atheism and Christianity, America and Russia” to be “effected by Hegel’s dialectic as employed by Marx.” Comte promoted a form of this dialectic by which Theology and Metaphysics inevitably yield to “positive science” and the manipulation of humanity by the “priesthood” of a new “Religion of Humanity.”
4, Wells, 85-6
5, Wells, 118, 90
6, Alice Bailey, Externalization of the Hierarchy, “Introductory Remarks: The Period of Transition,” March 1934 (Lucis 1957; 2001), 39-46 passim
7, Molnar, 213-19, chapter 6, “From Ideology to Social Engineering”; Molnar criticizes Julian Huxley’s totalitarian, identity dissolving plan for a “Common Thought Bank” to deliver instructions to all even more effectively than advertising does today. This is the nightmare of totalitarian homogeneity, effected by those forever extolling “diversity” that Milan Kundera describes as the Communist dream of “an idyll, -- for all” and from which none can dissent; The Book of Laughter and Forgetting (1978; 1996 revised English translation), Part 1, section 5 passim
8, Molnar quoting Professor Lawrence K. Frank, “Psychology and Order in Society” (1959), 220-21
9, Israel Eldad, The First Tithe (1950; English translation, Zev Golan 2008 Tel Aviv), 243; how reflective of Modernity that in a four volume set on “The World’s Great Thinkers” (Random House 1947), the volume title, “Man on Man: the Social Philosophers” contains four essays by Montaigne, three by Ralph Waldo Emerson, eight by any Greeks and Romans and none from the Books of Moses. The volume ends with an essay by John Dewey and that perhaps is apt since it is the era of his faction’s dominion
10, Molnar, 328, contains a brief quote from Reinhold Niebuhr
11, Russell K. Nieli, “Diversity’s Discontents: the ‘Contact Hypothesis’ Exploded,” Academic Questions Fall 2008, Volume 21, #4, pages 409-30; “Those familiar with European culture in the beginning of the 20th century had even more reason to doubt – if not ridicule – the contact hypothesis. Before World War I, in multi-ethnic Eastern European cities like Belgrade, Vienna, and Krakow different racial and ethnic groups often came into daily contact with one another, yet the result was hardly uniform harmony…” (414). One can make the same observation of an Islamicized Europe or an America, once a unique triumph of integration with its borders collapsed; or of an Israel that strains to exist with 2.5 million Arabs west of the Jordan River; or of India, etc.
12, “The ‘Right to Finality: the Therapeutic State Tidies up,” E. Narrett, Culture Wars (July 1997), 6-10
13, Nathaniel Hawthorne, “The Customs House,” autobiographical introduction to the Scarlet Letter (1850)
14, Molnar, 328 quotes French critic Georges Bernanos, Lettre aux Anglais [Letter to the English], 183; apparently the Round Table’s polemics for a “liberal world commonwealth” did not impress everyone.
15, Tony Blair, until 2009 Prime Minister of the Britain and chief of its Commonwealth, also has served for years as the “chief envoy” of the “Quartet” of powers that dictates to Jews where they can live in the Promised Land and how much money, food, fuel, and even weapons they must give to those who seek to exterminate them. In February and March 2009 there were reports that Mr. Blair, now head of the “Faith Foundation” sited at “Abraham Place” in London was being helped by PM Sarkozy of France toward becoming head of the European Union. Since “Europe” itself is a construct and its term not in wide use until the seventeenth century this is an apt bit of postmodernism, the last replacement theology and post script of “the West,” the branch that attacks its root. Its obsessive millenarianism is a warped version of the era of peace that may be achieved by the settlement of Israel and model of Torah, not by force of arms. The antithesis is emphasized in Modern Times by the main goals of international collectivists: to prevent Jewish sovereignty and their re-settlement of Israel as was demonstrated by the fifth member of the “quartet” in early May. Modern geopolitics is a subset of these interrelated forces.
