European Left More Dangerous for Jews than European Right

The greatest threats to Jews (and Israel) in contemporary Europe don’t necessarily come from the right anymore.

by Soeren Kern, PYJAMAS MEDIA

Jewish groups in Europe and the United States have reacted with alarm to the gains made by far-right political parties in the recent elections for European Parliament. Right-wing and nationalist parties posted significant victories in Austria, Britain, Denmark, Hungary, Romania, and the Netherlands in four days of voting that ended on June 7.

The Paris-based European Jewish Congress (EJC), an umbrella organization for Jewish communities in Europe, said:

“As we assess the results of this week’s elections, one disturbing trend has already crystallized; the gains made by extreme-right groups is a Europe-wide phenomenon. The success of the far-right and nationalistic parties that won seats in the elections on the basis of racist, anti-Semitic, and xenophobic platforms points to a clear erosion of tolerance and a clarion call to European officials to immediately engage in intercultural dialogue. The success of such rabid groups as The Freedom Party in the Netherlands, the Freedom Party in Austria (FPO), the Danish People’s Party, the British National Party, and Jobbik in Hungary, among others, will sadly only serve to embolden those who espouse the dangerous concepts of extreme nationalism, racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia.”

The Roadmap has Israel by the balls

By Ted Belman

Did you know that the Roadmap povides in Phase III

Parties reach final and comprehensive permanent status agreement that ends the Israel-Palestinian conflict in 2005, through a settlement negotiated between the parties based on UNSCR 242, 338, and 1397, that ends the occupation that began in 1967, and includes an agreed, just, fair, and realistic solution to the refugee issue, and a negotiated resolution on the status of Jerusalem that takes into account the political and religious concerns of both sides, and protects the religious interests of Jews, Christians, and Muslims worldwide, and fulfils the vision of two states, Israel and sovereign, independent, democratic and viable Palestine, living side-by-side in peace and security.

Thus Israel is forced to negotiate over the refugees and Jerusalem. But should Israel refuse to bend on these issues, all hell will break loose. The US will not let Israel be intransigent. The onus will be on israel to capitulate to the Arab demands.

There is no avoiding it unless israel rejects the Roadmap.

In April 03 I wrote Reject the Road Map. Its worse than a Trojan horse, its a time bomb. And so it is. Here’s an extract,

I could write another couple of pages to illustrate how bad it is for Israel. Suffice it so say that it castrates Israel. They are to be forced to accept a multilateral process at the expense of its own sovereignty. The Quartet will decide if the Palestinians are doing enough to end terror, on the right of return, on the rights of a Palestinian State, on where the borders are and what is to become of Jerusalem. I say this even when the Road Map provides that all issues are to be negotiated.

It is an unmitigated disaster for Israel. It is worse than a Trojan horse, it is a time bomb. Israel should stand its ground now and fight diplomatically before they are burdened with the implications of having accepted it. At the moment Israel has accepted the Bush vision of two states with all the preconditions. They should never accept any other guiding principle as presently in the Road Map, such as the Saudi Peace Plan, or that Israel must cooperate to make the state “viable”, or that the Quartet will decide anything. It is bad enough that they have accepted the vision of a two state solution. I would have preferred that only when borders are agreed upon, to Israel’s liking, would they agree to a state.

Haaretz sinks even lower.

By Ted Belman

IMRA discusses a recent poll under the title Maagar Mochot Poll finds Israelis want PM Netanyahu to reject President Obama’s demands . Lerner sets out the questions and the answers.

Haaretz on the other hand was unhappy with the results as was J-Street. Under the title, J Street blasts ‘distorted’ poll that says Israelis against settlement freezethey embarrass themselves.

The start by calling J Street “a pro-Israel group”. How blatant can you get. Then they provide a quote from J Street.

“Today’s quasi-poll, sponsored by Ariel University Center, the only settlement university, and published only in the clear rightist Makor Rishon-Hatzofe newspaper and not in any mainstream Hebrew press, is a good example of the half-truths and lies that will be injected into the debate. The politically motivated and distorting wording of the poll questions is clear to anyone who reads them.”

Nowhere is this put down supported.
