Career ladder: Jay Hunt has risen to the top of the BBC with astonishing speed

One of the BBC’s most senior executives is involved in running a media training company that makes thousands of pounds a year by teaching the Corporation’s own presenters how to perform in front of the cameras.

Jay Hunt, who earns up to £280,000 a year as the Controller of BBC1, is company secretary of the firm, which is owned by her husband.

The discovery of such close links between one of the BBC’s highest-ranking managers and a company that benefits from BBC contracts will bring the organisation under intense scrutiny again after the furore over executives’ expenses claims and excessive salaries for celebrity broadcasters.

BrightsparkTV, the company founded by Ms Hunt and her husband Ian Blandford, made a pre-tax profit of more than £117,000 and nearly doubled its turnover last year.

The Mail on Sunday has established that it has a contract with the BBC to coach staff and that it uses the Corporation’s studios and other facilities for some of its training sessions.
