New Al-Qaeda Video "The West and the Dark Tunnel": 9/11 Caused the Economic Crisis; Germany in the Crosshairs; Obama Is Continuing Bush's Policies (Part I)

Al-Qaeda's media wing Al-Sahab released, on September 22, 2009, a feature-length video titled "The West and the Dark Tunnel," in honor of the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. With the exception of bin Laden – who recorded a separate audio message released earlier – all members of the top Al-Qaeda command make appearances: Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Abu Yahya Al-Libi, Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid, Adam Gadahn, and Lewis 'Atiyat Allah.

The video also features statements by the head of Al-Qaeda franchises, such as the Algerian Abu Mus'ab 'Abd Al-Wadoud and the Emir of the Islamic State of Iraq Abu Omar Al-Baghdadi.

Following is a report on the first half of the video, which deals with the U.S. and the West. A report on the second half, which deals with the various theaters of jihad (Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, etc.), will follow.

9/11 and the Global Economic Crisis

The first segment of the video is devoted to the idea that the 9/11 attacks and the wars they brought in their wake were the true cause of the global economic crisis…
