Cameron to ditch Lisbon referendum...................

(AS EXPECTED...ANOTHER TRAITOR!)

David Cameron today did a clip on Europe, attacking the Govt for breaking their pledge to the voters for a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty.

Yet it appears that within days - ie as soon as the Treaty is finally ratified after the Czech courts clear it* - the Tory leader is to announce that he too will abandon his own pledge for a referendum.

He is expected to make clear that there would be a referendum on any future EU treaties (and possibly on some powers that need to be repatriated).

As I've pointed out before, Cam made a "cast-iron guarantee" to readers of The Sun back in 2007:

"Today, I will give this cast-iron guarantee: If I become PM, a Conservative government will hold a referendum on any EU treaty that emerges from these negotiations."

CCHQ point out that the U-turn has not come from official sources, but they may have to be more specific than that in coming days.

The Sun are already on board, having backed the Tories during party conference. But will they quietly acquiesce to this broken pledge made to their readers? Let's see.

FOOTNOTE: * Sarko said today that he expected the Treaty to be ratified by Dec 1.

I know many Euroscep MPs and MEPs are relaxed about the pledge being dumped, but the voters may see it differently.
