Open Europe

Invites you to an evening seminar:

The future of the eurozone: are taxpayers bailing out a sinking ship?

With:

Professor Dr. Wilhelm Hankel

Tuesday 7 September 2010

6pm - 7.30pm

St. Stephen's Club

34, Queen Anne's Gate

London SW1H 9AB

A dramatic six months have seen the eurozone rocked to its very core, forcing EU governments to put a multi-billion bailout package on the table in order to avoid the Single Currency imploding. The markets have been calmed for now, but will the euro survive in the long-term? And with question marks hanging over the legality of the rescue package, what political consequences will the eurozone bailout have for popular support for the EU and the eurozone?

Open Europe is delighted to host an evening discussion with Professor Dr. Wilhelm Hankel, who will provide an invaluable insight into why he thinks that the euro is bound to fail sooner or later.

Professor Dr. Hankel has published several works on Economic and Monetary Union and is famously one of the group of professors who challenged the introduction of the euro at the German Federal Constitutional Court. He is also the co-sponsor of a current legal complaint against the Greek bailout. He has been Visiting Professor at Harvard, Senior Visiting Professor at the Bologna Centre for Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University, and Visiting Professor at the Science Centre Berlin.
