'A judge ordered Wells Fargo & Co. to stop manipulating debit-card transactions without consumers’ knowledge to increase revenue from overdraft fees while ruling the bank should pay about $203 million to customers because of the practice.
U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco sided with three customers who sued in 2007 on behalf of thousands of Californians charged overdraft fees. In a ruling yesterday, he agreed that the practice was unfair, deceptive and fraudulent.'

'According to the ER nurses, in the southern Mississippi and Louisiana areas there have been more than 600 cases of what their staffs have appropriately named the "BP flu". The vast majority of these "flu" cases are with those people who are working along the coast, as well as further offshore, on boats; and those who live along the southernmost areas along the Gulf of Mexico.
One might initially think - based on mainstream media reports - that these flu-like symptoms are nothing to be overly concerned about. This is not a matter of 'take two aspirins and call me in the morning'. Nothing could be further from the truth.'

'There's no way of knowing whether Chavez is really in danger or not, but don't be surprised if he is. After all, the US claims it has the right to kill anyone it sees as a threat to its national security, and Chavez ranks high on its list of threats. In any event, the warnings coincide with other unsettling developments. At a recent meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS), Colombian officials charged Chavez with harboring guerrillas on Venezuelan territory. (The allegations could be used to justify a preemptive attack) Chavez reacted angrily to the accusations and broke off diplomatic relations with Colombia. But the row did not end there.
Obama's nominee as US ambassador to Venezuela, Larry Palmer, decided to throw a little gas on the fire by backing-up Colombia's claims. Now the two countries are at loggerheads which seems to be what the Obama administration had in mind from the very beginning. US policy towards Venezuela has changed at all under Obama. If anything, it's gotten worse.'

'Zombie bank Anglo Irish may cost the Irish taxpayer far more than the $30 billion so far set aside. Anglo Irish Bank formerly run by now bankrupt Sean FitzPatrick was at the center of the property collapse leaving billions in bad loans in its wake.
The new crisis has emerged despite assurances by the government that the Anglo bill would not come to more than the $30 billion figure. However, the Department of Finance has now admitted that there was a ‘significant risk’ that the Anglo bill will rise even further.'

'In light of the harrowing Hollie Greig case it has become clear that the Scottish elite have many more skeletons in the closet and many more stories worth an investigation. A system that thinks nothing of raping a down’s syndrome girl and covering it up are bound to have a long track record of corruption, and it’s starting to unravel thanks to the effort of independent researchers and activists.
An often used but scarcely followed term is “be the change you want to see in the world”. Duncan Simms of WeAreChange Norwich is trying to be that change, and immediately following the revelations of the Hollie case decided to go in to the belly of the beast with support from WideShut.
Although the BBC flatly refused to even talk about the Hollie case, a whole new situation has come to light. This is the story of Liz Docherty, who has been a victim of the Scottish establishment since childhood.'

"A state of emergency has been introduced in forests and parks on the territory of the Ozersk city district due to a complicated fire hazard situation," said a statement posted on the district's website.
Ozersk, in the Urals region of Russia, is the latest strategic site to be threatened by wildfires which have already badly damaged military depots and threatened other atomic facilities. Ozersk's Mayak plant can process 400 tonnes of waste a year. It was the scene of one of the former Soviet Union's major nuclear disasters in 1957 when a liquid waste accident affected some 260,000 people and forced the evacuation of several towns. The Snezhinsk centre, which makes nuclear weapons, is located in another town in the Urals some 925 miles east of Moscow.'

'A genetically modified (GM) crop has been found thriving in the wild for the first time in the United States. Transgenic canola is growing freely in parts of North Dakota, researchers told the Ecological Society of America conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, today.
The scientists behind the discovery say this highlights a lack of proper monitoring and control of GM crops in the United States.'

ti-Terror Hotline Advert Banned
Wednesday, 11 August 2010 09:34
A police advert encouraging the public to report suspected terrorists has been banned for potentially causing "serious offence" to law-abiding citizens, a watchdog has said.
The campaign by the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) drew 18 complaints, including 10 from listeners who said it was offensive for encouraging people to report law-abiding citizens who acted in the ways described. Others said it could encourage people to harass or victimise their neighbours and made an undue appeal to fear.'

'Thousands of British businesses will be liable for significant fines and charges under a new government “green tax” scheme. Companies that fail to register their energy use by next month will be hit with fines that could reach £45,000 under the little-known rules.
Those that do participate in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) initiative by declaring their energy use will face charges for every ton of greenhouse gas they produce. These payments are expected to average £38,000 a year for medium-sized firms, and could reach £100,000 for larger organisations.'

'Global warming data apparently cooked by U.S. government-funded body shows astounding temperature fraud with increases averaging 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. The tax-payer funded National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has become mired in fresh global warming data scandal involving numbers for the Great Lakes region that substantially ramp up averages.
A beleaguered federal agency appears to be implicated in the most blatant and extreme case of climate data fraud yet seen. Official records have been confirmed as evidence that a handful of temperature records for the Great Lakes region have been hiked up by literally hundreds of degrees to substantially inflate the average temperature range for the northeastern United States.'

'Senator Joe Lieberman’s draconian Internet takeover legislation, the 197-page Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, is being promoted as a vital tool to protect vulnerable infrastructure hubs from terrorist attacks, but as a recent Wall Street Journal report makes clear, large industrial power and water plants are not even connected to the public Internet.
Lieberman has been busy over the last several months pushing the cybersecurity agenda, with a bill that would hand President Obama the power to shut down parts of the world wide web for at least four months with no congressional oversight in the event of a cyber attack on critical infrastructure systems in the U.S.
However, the primary purpose of cybersecurity and Lieberman’s legislation is to combat a problem that doesn’t exist.'

'Ana V. Ramirez probably didn’t want to call the police last April when her adult son, Christian Pagan, had what was described as a “violent outburst.” She certainly didn’t want the police to use a Taser on the 25-year-old, who was born with a heart defect and Down’s Syndrome.
“He’s a handicap [sic] kid,” Ramirez told the Miami-Dade Police Department’s 911 dispatcher. “I don’t want them to shoot him with a Taser.” Within minutes of their arrival at the family’s home in West Kendall, the police had shot Pagan six times with a Taser.
Ramirez and her other son, 21-year-old Hernando Yunis, tried to shield Christian with their bodies, pulling the Taser prongs from his clothing and pleading with the police to stop. Ramirez herself was shot with the portable electro-shock torture device before she and Hernando were arrested for the supposed crime of “resisting arrest without violence".'

'The administration is promoting claims that most of the oil erupting from the leak has either been contained or evaporated, with only a quarter posing a continued threat to the region.
The claim, advanced in a report by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and promoted by the National Incident Command in the Gulf, is simply the latest in a long record of lies and falsifications. From the beginning, the policy of both BP and the Obama administration has been to cover up the true size and scope of the oil spill. It was NOAA which provided the claim in the days immediately following the April 20 blowout that only 5,000 barrels per day were spilling into the Gulf, and continued to drastically underestimate the size of the spill throughout the crisis.'
