Ten basin-oriented studies released by the Department of Energy Office of Fossil Energy examine the potential to economically recover the oil remaining in mature fields in the United States using carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) technologies. Today's oil recovery practices leave behind a large resource of "stranded oil" – 390 billion barrels in the regions studied. Such stranded oil provides a substantial target for enhanced oil recovery technology.

The ten regions have a technically recoverable potential of almost 89 billion barrels using the latest CO2-EOR technologies. Emerging, advanced EOR technologies could further increase the incremental oil recovery. Developing these resources would provide significant revenues to state treasuries, provide thousands of additional domestic jobs, and improve the U.S. trade balance by reducing imports.

The ten CO2-EOR basin assessments are:

What China Must Think

Imagine what energy-starved China must think about America's stupid neglect of its awesome natural resource wealth, the unlocking of which is the key to the country's economic recovery and revitalization. That the United States is capable of producing its way to renewed, long-term prosperity--but chooses not to--is truly mind boggling.

If America's EOR potential were to be fully realised, according to the DOE, state and local treasuries would gain $280 billion in revenues from future royalties, severance taxes, and state income taxes on oil production, aside from other economic benefits.

Similar to Heavy Oil Methods

EOR methods for conventional crude are similar to heavy crude oil production methods. Not including Alaska, the United States sits atop 84.2 billion barrels of heavy oil--thick, gooey, gummy crude that typically must be softened and coaxed to the surface of a well. Cumulative U.S. heavy oil production totals about 10.8 billion barrels, leaving the remaining oil in place at 73.4 billion barrels.

So much for the molasses-like, semi-solid stuff. Regarding the solid kind of oil that is produced through mining, U.S. oil sands, or tar sands--the terms are synonymous---resources are estimated at 22 billion to 54 billion barrels. The largest oil sands deposits in the U.S. are in the state of Utah with proven reserves of 8-12 billion barrels.

"Oil is the lifeblood of America's economy." The DOE says so on its website, adding that oil currently "supplies more than 40% of our total energy demands and more than 99% of the fuel we use in our cars and trucks."

Fossilized View of "Fossil Energy"

Too bad the DOE, in what could be seen as a reflection of the Obama administration's downright destructive attitude towards the oil industry, including domestic independent producers, has apparently not bothered to update its "Fossil Energy" section since the Bush years. Check this out:

The Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy focuses on two important concerns over oil - an immediate readiness to respond to oil supply disruptions and keeping America's oil fields producing in the future.

In the event the United States is confronted with a serious disruption in oil supplies, the Strategic Petroleum Reserve can provide an emergency supply of crude oil. The oil is stockpiled in underground salt caverns along the Gulf of Mexico coastline. President Bush has ordered the Reserve to be filled to its full 700 million barrel capacity by 2005. [Italics added for emphasis.]

As shown by all of the above, it is the nation's whole approach to so-called fossil fuels, including conventional and heavy oils and natural gas, oil sands and oil shale, and coal--the U.S. is the Saudi Arabia of coal, which can be liquefied--that is truly fossilized, as in outmoded and inflexible.

Will Palin Save the Nation from Pauperization?

Perhaps Sarah Palin will save the day--meaning, put an end to the pauperizing, anti-real resources/real energypolicies of Obama and his left-wing loons and dumbbell Democrats. Of all the possible 2012 Presidential candidates and hopefuls, she is the only one who understands and appreciates energy and natural resources, and the ways in which the enlightened exploitation of these vital assets can put millions of Americans back to work in well-paying, permanent jobs.

"I will focus on energy independence," Palin promised in 2008 when she was Republican Presidential candidate John McCain's running mate. "First and foremost, an energy independent nation. We must get there. It is a matter of national security and of our future prosperity, being able to quit relying on foreign sources of energy to feed our hungry markets when we have the American supplies and we have the American ingenuity and we have the American workers to produce these supplies of energy."

Right on, Sarah!

QUESTION: Did it ever occur to the Obamunists and their adoring media mavens that China, which is already holding more than two trillion U.S. dollars, might like the U.S. to pursue energy independence in order to (a) strengthen the dollar, and (b) remove the U.S. as a competitor for overseas oil?

Saudi Media, Missing the Satire, Fall for the Obama-Admits-He's-Muslim Story, Make it Front Page News

Click here for the story, which would be funny if not for the fact that Obama is seen as a Muslim across the Middle East. Reasons:

  • He was born a Muslim according to Islamic law, which traces religion through the father.
  • He has a Muslim middle name, Hussein, the mere mention of which has been practically banned by an adoring media seeking to play down his Muslim heritage.
  • He studied and practiced Islam as a child in Indonesia, where his Muslim, Indonesian stepfather registered him for school as both a Muslim and an Indonesian citizen.
  • He has made outreach to "the Muslim world"--rather than, say, the Arab world--a central part of his (utterly failed) foreign policy, has made a point of quoting from "the Holy Koran," and has spoken out in support of the Ground Zero mosque project (which many moderate Muslims and at least one Saudi prince have opposed or criticized).
  • He seems obsessed with forcing Israel to withdraw to indefensible borders in order to make possible the creation of a Palestinian Arab state encompassing the West Bank and Islamist-ruled Gaza, with Jerusalem as its capital.
  • He has allowed Iran to come closer than ever to becoming a nuclear weapons state by appeasing and attempting to actually align with the Islamist regime ruling Iran in the context of a so-called engagement policy.
  • He has effectively encouraged Turkey's crypto-Islamist regime to embrace Iran and turn against Israel.
  • He has supported Turkey's bid for EU membership--even though the United States is not an EU member--and has also intervened in France's internal burqa ban dispute, on the pro-Islamist, pro-burqa side.
  • He has effectively encouraged the Muslim Brotherhood, in Egypt and around the world.
  • He has supported U.S. civilian court trials for Al Qaeda terrorists and war criminals.
  • He has physically bowed--deeply and submissively, from the waist--to the Saudi king, in the manner of a Muslim servant or slave.
  • He has campaigned--in Kenya--for the country's pro-Islamist prime minister.
  • His Kenyan step-grandmother has publicly urged him to convert to Islam.
  • He has not spoken out to defend persecuted Christians in Pakistan and Iraq.
  • The Black Liberation Theology church he attended for 20 years backs Hamas against Israel and cooperates closely with the Nation of Islam.
  • He has steadfastly refused to release his hospital-generated, long-form, original birth certificate and all academic records, from kindergarten through law school, fueling rumors that he was born abroad and/or posed as a possibly Muslim foreign student in order to obtain financial assistance and other benefits.
  • In a slip of the tongue, he referred to his "Muslim faith" in a television interview during the 2008 Presidential campaign.
