Pastor Terry Jones never came close to The Islamic Center of America before standing trial to try and get a permit to protest there. "We definitely will not burn the Koran, we will have no type of burning of Mohammad, those type of things will not take place," said Jones before the trial. But after a short hearing the jury decided his past actions were enough to deny a permit for public protest. The judge in the case ordered Jones to pay a one dollar bond. When he refused, the judge sent him to jail. "We are not here demonstrating against the Koran, against their faith, against their rights, we are demonstrating against that radical element," said Jones. A short time later though, the bond was posted, and Jones went free, with orders from the judge to stay away from the Islamic Center of America for three years. "With freedom comes responsibility. Speak freely, but don't accuse freely," said Imam Mohammad Ali Elahi of the Islamic House of Wisdom. More Islamic bullying propaganda. The night featured awards given to two local judges, a human rights group, and former members of ADC for their commitments to preserving justice and civil rights. "Even in this difficult financial time, ADC has made it a huge priority that this night take place annually because they value the work of judges around them in Michigan," said Kathleen McCarthy, the Judge's Night committee chair. Fifty judges, as well as government officials and community leaders, attended the event, whose sponsors included DTE and the U.S. Border Patrol. "The theme is perfect for the prosecutor's office: Guardians of Justice. Our role is that of a gatekeeper," Worthy said. "I learned that a prosecutors' most important role is to control what cases get into the system, to ensure that justice is done for everyone." Worthy spoke of 10 points that her office is working on to ensure that the community is aware that the prosecutor's office is committed to conserving justice and engaging the local community in our justice system. She spoke of the safe schools initiative in Dearborn, diversity programs, the possibility of a community court, grant funding from the capital, an anti-bullying statute for Michigan, diversity training for the staff, informational brochures available in more languages, working to relieve the tension between the African American and Arab American communities, diversifying staff by hiring attorneys from different ethnic backgrounds, and handling immigration problems, which she says is the department's biggest issue. "If you commit a crime American-born, and commit a crime not American-born, I think it is unfair that one is deported and one is not just because of where they were born," she said. Worthy spoke of working with the Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) to find a way to prevent deportations for minor offenses. "I want people to say when they were in the Wayne County prosecutor's office that they were treated fairly due to our commitment to civil rights and social justice," Worthy said. A little background on the The ADC (from Discover the Networks): ADC was a co-plaintiff in the first major legal challenge to a section of the Patriot Act -- specifically Section 215, which allows for government access to such information as medical, educational, and library records pursuant to a terrorism investigation. The organization has also endorsed the Community Resolution to Protect Civil Liberties campaign, which tries to influence city councils to pass resolutions of noncompliance with the provisions of the Patriot Act. The city of Dearborn, Michigan denied a permit Wednesday for Qur’an-burning Pastor Terry Jones’ planned protest outside the Islamic Center of America on Good Friday. Islamic supremacists were handed a victory for their violent intimidation and threats. City spokeswoman Mary Laundroche said that Jones’ permit had been denied for “public safety reasons.” In other words, they’re afraid Muslims will riot. And so the rights of free Americans have to be curtailed. Terry Jones burned a Qur’an. So what? What happened to the freedom of assembly, the freedom of speech, and the freedom of expression? Terry Jones is prohibited from rallying in Michigan for fear of Islamic violence. Is that how far down the Sharia rabbit hole we have gone? Why is it that any time American law comes into conflict with Islamic law, it is American law that has to give way? How dare they prohibit this march? Nazis marched in Skokie. Americans better stand up to this enforced Sharia. The idea that Muslims in America would get violent because of Jones speaks volumes about Muslims in America, does it not? Why don’t we don’t see Muslims taking to the streets every time there is an honor killing, or a church bombing, or an act of jihad, jihad piracy, forced marriage, or child slavery? Where are they? Dearborn is trying to charge Jones for the extra police protection that his rally will require. But he is not the one responsible for that; the Muslims who might get violent are. If Jones had burned a Bible, no one would be threatening violence against him. Dearborn should charge the Muslims for the extra police, not Jones. Once again Dearborn shows itself to be a pro-Sharia city that oppresses Christians. Who can forget the Christians who were arrested for passing out leaflets at a Muslim festival last July? Or the lawsuit that challenges the official cooperation by the city of Dearborn, Michigan with Islamic interests, and makes a stunning allegation: that under the recognized “Shariah” law in the city, there have been “honor killing” murders that have been “covered up”? Wednesday’s court filing against Constitutional freedoms “equates the actions of zealots in Afghanistan with Muslim Americans in Dearborn.” I pulled that quote from Muslim Brotherhood-tied CAIR. Indeed. As for Jones, I don’t like book burning, but so what? I have repeatedly stated my position on this. Jones does a grave disservice to the cause of spreading awareness about Islamic teachings and the threat that Sharia poses to our way of life. The burning of books is wrong in principle: the antidote to bad speech is not censorship or book-burning, but more speech. Open discussion. Give-and-take. And the truth will out. There is no justification for burning books. Nonetheless, if Americans are free and not under Sharia, then Jones can burn any book he wants, and his church and people of like mind can hold any demonstration they want. His freedom and rights should be protected. Islamic supremacists should not be allowed a victory for their violent intimidation — if these people want to stage a protest, they’re free to do so. This is another challenge to the U.S. to stand up for free speech and free expression. Popular speech needs no protection. As such all Americans should support the right of the church to have done this, even if they dislike what they’re doing. Many people have said that Jones’s actions will endanger American troops in Afghanistan. This warning is just another terror tactic. It is based on the assumption that the Taliban and others in Afghanistan are fighting us because we are doing things they don’t like, and so if we stop doing those things, they will stop fighting us. But actually they are fighting us because of imperatives within the Islamic faith. They will never like us unless we convert to Islam or submit to Islamic rule. If we stop doing things they dislike, where will we draw the line? How far will Sharia advance in the U.S., with Americans afraid to stop its advance for fear of offending Muslims and stirring them up to violence? The Muslim Students Association is already pushing for halal cafeterias, segregated dorms, segregated gym facilities on campus. This is incompatible with American freedom. We have to draw the line. I will tell you this: Islamic law (Sharia) cannot, must not, and will not have its way over our free speech. That is worth fighting for, worth dying for. UPDATE: More on this outrage....... Jones may not be sympathetic, but he has every right to assembly, free speech and free expression. What the hell is he doing in a courtroom? And why does he face jail time? A Pakistani victim of a village council-sanctioned gang rape, who became a symbol of the country's oppressed women, says her life is in danger after the Supreme Court acquitted 13 men accused of the crime. The ruling leaves just one of the initial 14 suspects in prison. Mukhtaran Mai was attacked on the orders of a village council in Punjab province nine years ago as a punishment because her brother - who was 12 at the time - was judged to have offended the honour of a powerful clan by allegedly having an affair with one of its women. Mai, aged 30, was an illiterate villager at the time but the seamstress defied taboos and shot to global fame by speaking out about her ordeal and taking her attackers to court. Mai had accused 14 men of being involved in raping her in a stable and in 2002, a court sentenced six of them to death while acquitting the others citing a lack of evidence. But in an appeal, the Lahore High Court not only upheld the eight acquittals but also overturned five of the six convictions. The death penalty for the sixth man, Abdul Khaliq, was commuted to life in prison. Mai appealed to the Supreme Court in 2005 but a three-judge bench rejected her appeal on Thursday, said Gohar Ali Shah, a lawyer for Mai. 'I'm disappointed. Why was I made to wait for five years if this decision was to be given?' said a sobbing Mai in a telephone interview from her village in the eastern province of Punjab shortly after the court announced the decision. 'The accused can kill me and my family when they return home,' she added. 'I have lost faith in the courts, and now I am leaving my case to the court of God. 'Ground Zero mosque' developer says it's full steam ahead: Park51 will rise in lower Manhattan Daily News Talk to 10 people about the "Ground Zero Mosque" and you'll get 10 different views of what they think it is and where it is located. Nah, everybody hates the idea of a mega mosque on Ground Zero. About one year after the debate over this project became a national controversy, let's set the record straight, again. First: It is not a mosque, nor is it on Ground Zero. Park51, which is the name of the project, is first and foremost an Islamic community center, modeled after the Jewish Community Center on the upper West Side. First off, it is a mosque. Has he removed the mosque. Aristotle said A is A. Geller says, a mosque is a mosque. Secondly, it is Ground Zero. That very building was partially destroyed in the attacks of 911. It is a war memorial and should be the last place that a triumphal mosque should be erected. And again, the JCC is not a synagogue. But an "islamic center" is part of the Muslim Brotherhood program of Islamic imperialism. When completed, the center will contain a gym, a pool, a pre-K, a daycare facility, an amphitheater, a culinary institute, a 9/11 memorial and more. There will be a separate prayer As with the JCC, membership to the community center will be open to all New Yorkers, The JCC does not have a temple and that area is not residential, it's the financial center. But as clear as our vision is, lots of misperceptions persist. But Park51 has pledged that our financing will be made public, that we will not take any funds from entities or governments hostile to America. We will work with the relevant government agencies to make sure all our funding is vetted and approved. Like who? Holder? My story embodies the American Dream. During the House Homeland Security hearing last month on the topic of radicalization in the American Muslim community, one exchange between L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca and Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-MN) concerned the relationship between the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and Hamas terrorist front the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Sheriff Baca told the congressman: We don’t play around with criminals in my world. If CAIR is an organization that is a quote “criminal organization,” prosecute them. Hold them accountable and bring them to trial. But according to a high-ranking source within the Department of Justice, who spoke exclusively to Pajamas Media on the condition of anonymity, Sheriff Baca, a long-time supporter of CAIR, was probably already in on the joke. The joke is that a number of leaders of Islamic organizations (all of whom publicly opposed the King hearings on Muslim radicalization) were about to be indicted on terror finance support charges by the U.S. attorney’s office in Dallas, which had been investigating the case for most of the past decade. But those indictments were scuttled last year at the direction of top-level political appointees within the Department of Justice (DOJ) — and possibly even the White House. (more here) And for "outreach?" PJM had this from a highly placed DoJ source: In all my years working for the U.S. government I have rarely seen anything as mystifying as our outreach to Muslims. Do we really need it? Sure. We need to be reaching out to the Muslim leaders who are working to prevent radicalization, not the ones who are making it happen. But that isn’t what we’re doing. Instead we’re having countless meetings from the Cabinet level on down with groups and individuals that we know are bad guys and who we’ve repeatedly said in court are actively working to support terrorist groups overseas. We even had [FBI General Counsel] Valerie Caproni meeting regularly with these Hamas guys to get their guidance. What advice do you think they were giving her? And she knew exactly who she was dealing with. It was the FBI who went into federal court and said that CAIR isHamas. But at the same time that FBI agents were testifying in the [Holy Land Foundation] trial that CAIR is a Hamas front there was serious disagreement inside DOJ and the FBI about whether we should continue to work with CAIR or cut them loose. So now we do both. We say publicly that we don’t have an official relationship, but CAIR still has most of the staff in [Attorney General Eric] Holder and [FBI Director Robert] Mueller’s offices on speed dial. Don’t think for a minute that we stopped dealing with them. And what exactly is our end game for doing this? Nobody knows. Are we getting anything by reaching out to CAIR? Of course not. Even O's Passover message was incendiary. Officer Howard Hersh, a police spokesman, says investigators haven’t determined whether the act was a hate crime. Imagine, if you will, if this were a mosque and/or Muslim owned businesses. Keep it movin'. 14 windows were shot out at the synagogue and local Jewish-affiliated businesses. The Beth Sholom synagogue in Washington DC had its windows shot out on Monday the eve of Passover Unknown elements used a pellet gun to shatter the windows of the Beth Sholom synagogue in Washington D.C. on Monday – Passover eve. They also fired at the window displays of a women’s clothing store and jewelry store owned by Jews. Police have yet to trace the suspects and have not ruled out the possibility the act was a hate crime. The shooting occurred on Monday night when the synagogue was empty. There were no injuries. A synagogue element told NBC News that the motive for the crime was unclear. The jewelry store owner estimated it was a childish prank. Police are currently looking into both scenarios and are working to trace the owners of a car seen in footage from the shopping center’s security cameras. Tow Jewish-affiliated businesses in the area were also shot at. Montgomery County police say someone used a BB gun to shoot holes in several windows at a synagogue in Potomac and at two nearby businesses. The vandalism was discovered early Monday at Beth Sholom Congregation on Seven Locks Road. The Jewish holiday of Passover begins Monday evening. Officer Howard Hersh, a police spokesman, says investigators haven’t determined whether the act was a hate crime. He says the two businesses have Jewish affiliations. They are a jewelry store and a women’s clothing store. Hersh says surveillance video shows the suspected shooter driving up to the stores in a vehicle around 1:20 a.m. Monday They should be protesting against the sharia (Islamic law.) They came to America to get away from the oppressive and brutal system of governance, did they not? Or did they come to impose it? Muslims rally at Tennessee Capitol to protest legislation The Tennessean, April 20 (hat tip AB) Several hundred Muslims thronged the state Capitol on Tuesday in protest of legislation that they say takes aim at their religious beliefs, calling on the bill to be defeated. Muslims from across the state — many wearing traditional skullcaps and headscarves — packed a committee room and corridors to hear testimony on a bill that supporters say would help Tennessee stop terrorist plots but opponents believe singles out Muslims who adhere to Islamic law. They urged lawmakers to withdraw the bill, or at least to delay it until it can be rewritten so that groups labeled as terrorist organizations can protest the designation before they are forced to shut down. “These are issues for any group,” said Nadeem Siddiqi, a native Knoxville resident who traveled to Nashville to speak against the bill. “The United States of America is known for its freedoms, known for due process, known for a fair system, and to be able to have a few individuals in a state of panic create this kind of risk to civil society is just inappropriate.” Incredible that they can equate American freedom with the brutal oppression of sharia. The gathering, which was put together by mosques and Muslim civic groups around the state, comes in response to legislation that originally criticized Shariah, the basic set of Muslim religious laws governing everything from warfare and criminal punishments to prayer preparations and family matters. The first version of the bill, which was written by an Arizona organization critical of Islam, labeled Shariah “a legal-political-military doctrine and system” that requires its followers to support the overthrow of the United States government. Several Muslims who turned out Tuesday said that is a distortion. “People have this idea that Shariah is just chopping people’s hands, but Shariah is a way of life for us,” said Arshia Shah, a lawyer originally from Britain who now lives in Sparta and came to the Capitol with her husband and two daughters. “It’s prayer. It’s how we deal with our spouses. And to tell people that they can’t practice this — that they’re doing something wrong — is a great concern.” The bill has since been amended to remove all references to Shariah and Islam. What is left is legislation, known formally as the Material Support to Designated Entities Act, that would let the governor and the state attorney general label groups as terrorist organizations. Once designated, a group’s financial assets could be frozen and its contributors could face criminal penalties. The bill’s sponsors, House Speaker Pro Tempore Judd Matheny, R-Tullahoma, and state Sen. Bill Ketron, R-Murfreesboro, say the bill gives Tennessee law enforcement agencies the ability to disrupt terrorist plots. They also say it could be used to disrupt street gangs and neo-Nazi groups, as well as terrorist organizations. “I think it’s a good bill,” Ketron said. “They say it’s duplicative because it mirrors the Patriot Act on the federal level, but local law enforcement see and hear what’s going on locally.” Muslim organizations have been opposed to the legislation from the outset, but Tuesday was the first time they turned out in large numbers, drawing a crowd that rivaled those brought to the Capitol by labor and teachers organizations earlier this session. The Georgia and San Francisco chapters of ADC were signatories to a February 20, 2002 document composed by the radical group Refuse & Resist, condemning military tribunals and the detention of immigrants apprehended in connection with post-9/11 terrorism investigations. The document accused the U.S. government of rounding up and incarcerating large numbers of Arab, Muslim and South Asian immigrants without cause.
(e) ADC's fifth major objective is “Encouraging a balanced U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East”: In effect, this means discouraging American support for Israel, which ADC views as an oppressor nation that routinely violates the human rights of Palestinians. In August 2006 ADC drew up, for its supporters to sign, a petition that read: “If the United States is to be taken seriously as a peace making nation, it cannot continue to provide the weapons being used by Israel to kill hundreds of innocent people in such brutal and inhumane ways.” In ADC's view, America has more than once been guilty of genocide against foreign populations -- sometimes directly through the use of its own military might, and in other cases indirectly, through Israel.
In 1994, then-ADC President Hamzi Moghrabi said, “I will not call [Hamas] a terrorist organization. I mean, I know many people in Hamas. They are very respectable … I don’t believe Hamas, as an organization, is a violent organization.” Two years later, his successor, Hala Maksoud, defended Hamas’ partner in Mideastern terrorism, Hezbollah. “I find it shocking,” Maksoud said, “that [one] would include Hezbollah in … [an] inventory of Middle East ‘terrorist’ groups.” In 2000, new ADC President Hussein Ibish characterized Hezbollah as “a disciplined and responsible liberation force.” James Abourezk called Hamas and Hezbollah “resistance fighters.”
ADC was a signatory to a MAY 20, 2004 Joint Muslims/Arab-American Statement on Israeli Violence in Gaza, which "strongly condemn[ed]" Israel's "indiscriminate killings of innocent Palestinians, including many children," and its "demolition of Palestinian homes." The organization has also expressed its view that Israel’s security barrier in the West Bank is an illegal "apartheid wall." As noted by Debbie Schlussel, when Israel released hundreds of Hezbollah prisoners in early 2004, Imad Hamad, ADC’s Midwest Regional Director, openly celebrated the freedom of "the Heroes." This sentiment was consistent with ADC's longstanding pattern of praising both Hezbollah and Hamas.
ADC formerly ran ads in its publication ADC Times for the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, which in 2001 President Bush shut down for funneling millions of dollars to Hamas.
ADC is notable not only for its programs and campaigns, but also for its open expressions of support for some controversial figures. For instance, in 1987 the Committee honored filmmaker Michael Moore for his “courageous efforts in journalism.” A decade and a half later, when University of South Florida professor Sami-Al Arian was indicted on terrorism-related charges, ADC’s Hussein Ibish depicted FBI investigations of Al-Arian “a political witch hunt, a vendetta, and a kind of very, very ugly post-9/11 McCarthyism.”

The site is two-and-half blocks north of Ground Zero - next to a McDonald's, several bars and delis. Once completed, you won't even be able to see Ground Zero from the building.especially those who reside inlower Manhattan. This is actually a critical point. Since 9/11, the area has undergone dramatic demographic shifts. There are now more baby strollers there than briefcases. We need this type of facility. That is why community leaders have been so supportive from the start.
