Nato Suggests 'Weapons Systems Failure' in Tripoli Raid that Killed Still More Civilians

Brain failure and heart failure more like. Nato said that it would target anyone who harmed civilians in Libya and so, yet again, it must now bomb itself.

'Nato has admitted "a weapons systems failure" may have led to civilian casualties in Sunday morning's air strike in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

The alliance said the intended target was a missile site, but "it appears that one weapon" did not hit it. The Libyan government earlier said Nato had bombed a residential area, killing nine civilians, including two babies.'

Greek PM Warns of 'Catastrophic' Default

'The Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has asked Greeks to support further austerity measures or the country will face a “catastrophic” default. The austerity measures will include further spending cuts, an increase in taxes and a privatization plan, which the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the EU have demanded in return for the new EUR 12 billion bailout package.

"The consequences of a violent bankruptcy or exit from the euro would be immediately catastrophic for households, the banks and the country's credibility," said Papandreou as he appealed to the opposition to support him in a confidence vote, while addressing the Greek parliament, Reuters reported.'

US Slams Karzai for 'Occupiers' Remark

'US Ambassador to Afghanistan Karl W. Eikenberry has slammed Afghan President Hamid Karzai for likening US-led military action in his country to an "occupation".

"When we hear ourselves being called occupiers and worse, our pride is offended and we begin to lose our inspiration to carry on," Eikenberry went on to say.' Eikenberry has indirectly criticized remarks made by Karzai by commenting that Afghan leaders had made “hurtful and inappropriate” comments by calling the United States an “occupier,” AFP reported.'

Massive Protest Held in Madrid

'Spaniards have gathered outside the parliament in the capital Madrid to protest against the country's massive unemployment and tough austerity measures.

A week after the demonstrators dismantled their make-shift camps in Madrid's Puerta Del Sol square, tens of thousands of people swarmed the streets, protesting at what they called corrupt policies and the country's ailing economy, AFP reported.

"The banks and the governments that caused this situation must know that we do not agree with the measures and the budget cuts, that we intend to be heard," a statement released by a movement known as the "indignant" read on Sunday.'

British Army Braces for Mass Exodus

'The British army is facing a mass exodus after hundreds of its brightest officers and soldiers applied for voluntary redundancy, media reports said. Almost one thousands of the next generation of military chiefs applied for voluntary redundancy despite the army asking for only 500 volunteers, British media reported.

The troops, who have unveiled their intention to leave the job, including 52 colonels, have cited record low morale and the pending defence cuts as the reason behind their motives, according to the reports.'
