Judah the Maccabee at West Point Military Academy

The legacy of Chanukah – faith, patriotism, defiance of extreme odds and tenacity in the battle of liberty against tyranny – has underlined the American spirit since the early Pilgrims, enhancing the unique foundation of the US-Israel covenant: shared values.

For instance, the statue of Judah the Maccabee, the hero of the Jewish rebellion against the Syrian-Seleucid Empire, is displayed at the West Point Military Academy, the most prestigious US military academy, founded in 1802. The statue of Judah the Maccabee, known for his principle-driven leadership and daring battle tactics, is displayed along with the statues of Joshua, David, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Hector, King Arthur, Charlemagne and Godfrey of Bouillon – “the Nine Worthies.”

George Washington became acquainted with the spirit of the Maccabees, upon settling, in December...

Jordan MB Blames Government and Police for Friday Violence

I wonder who is behind this. I am told by Palestinians in Jordan that the MB is more established with the Bedouin who support Abdullah. The we we read that Abdullah is taking to Hamas. But according to my informers, the Palestinians want nothing to do with the MB. Ted Belman

IkhwanWeb, the MB website

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Jordan warned of entering the “Age of mafias and gangs” after the burning of the headquarters of the group and the Islamic Action Front in the city of Mafraq (65 kilometers east of Amman) by pro-government elements after attacking a rally organized by the MB there, amid continued government silence about what happened yesterday, Friday.

In a statement released by the MB, the group stated that what happened was due to one of two possibilities. The first: the government, with its authorities and institutions fails to provide protection for its citizens, fails to enforce the law, fails to establish the institutional state, and fails to deal with...

Proposed Law to Expel ‘Fifth Column’ MKs

MK Danny Danon wants a law allowing the Knesset to expel “fifth column” members. His target: IHH flotilla participant Hanin Zoabi

By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu, INN

Likud Knesset Member Danny Danon is preparing a proposed law to allow the Knesset to expel any member who supports terrorists or acts to undermine the country.

His bill is in response to last week’s decision by Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein to close the investigation against Arab MK Hanin Zoabi, who participated in the May 2009 flotilla sponsored by the Turkish terror-linked IHH organization.

Dozens of IHH members on the Mavi Marmara boat brutally clubbed, shot, knifed and kidnapped Israeli navy commandos, who had warned the boat to change its course from Hamas-controlled Gaza. The commandos eventually were able to overtake their attackers, nine of whom were killed in the clash. Zoabi was on board but was not in the group of attackers. She was not injured.

Zoabi belongs in jail and not in the Knesset, MK Danon...

Soros more involved with J-Street than you think

You wouldn’t expect George Soros’ tentacles here, or would you?
Group promoting ‘peace’ in Middle East tied to Occupy, MoveOn, ACORN, more

By Aaron Klein

JERUSALEM – J Street, the supposedly pro-Israel, pro-peace political action committee and lobbyist group, is actually backed by a controversial far-left clearinghouse financed by billionaire George Soros, WND has learned.

J Street claims to be pro-Israel, yet it has faced mounting criticism for its policies and advocacy that many argue is harmful to the Jewish state.

J Street’s executive director, Jeremy Ben Ami, is himself deeply tied to the controversial group, the Tides Center, which is heavily financed by Soros.

Ben Ami served at a radical-led marketing firm that helps to craft the public relations strategy for Tides grantees, including MoveOn. The firm, Fenton Communications, also has represented Soros himself as well as the billionaire’s Open Society Institute.

Michael Coren stands with the good guys.

Before making aliya I participated in a panel on Islam and the UN that was hosted by Michael Coren. He was very uncomfortable with my remarks and an exchange of correspondence took place. A number of people vigorously defended me. He’s come a long way now. Meir Weinstein is the head of the vibrant JDL in Canada and Coren has taken a linking to him because he speaks truth. Weinstein introduced Coren to Robinson the head of the English Defence League in the UK. He opposes Islamization. The police refuse to protect him and infact harrass him. And now this.

No peace talks if Hamas joins PA government, says Netanyahu

“I refuse to allow the future Palestinian state to become a missile base like Gaza and Lebanon,” says the prime minister • Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman estimates peace deal won’t be achieved “in the coming decade” • Lieberman slams Europe for failing to stop Iran and doing nothing more than “placate Israel.”

Shlomo Cesana, ISRAEL HAYOM

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Sunday that he would refuse to negotiate with a Palestinian government that included representatives of the Islamist terrorist group Hamas.

Netanyahu made the remarks just days after Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Mashaal met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Cairo to discuss the restructuring of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the Palestinian umbrella body whose largest faction is Abbas’ Fatah, so as to include Hamas.

Speaking to Israeli diplomats in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said “if Hamas joins the...

Hareidi go to far

In the city of Beit Shemesh, tensions run high

Acts of segregation and violence toward women in Beit Shemesh turn the city into a focus for controversy • Police, called in to remove signs segregating streets, attacked by ultra-Orthodox rioters • Religious MKs speak out against this type of extremism.

ISRAEL HAYOM

The city of Beit Shemesh has recently become the eye of a storm of controversy over the exclusion of women from public spaces in Israel.

Cameras recently installed throughout the city as part of the Public Security Ministry’s “City Without Violence” program have documented incidents of gender segregation and violence toward women around the city, including spitting and shouting of insults, Israel Radio reported on Monday.

On Sunday, Police said that a Channel 2 TV news crew filming in the city on Sunday were surrounded by ultra-Orthodox men, who hurled stones at them and incited a mini-riot.

The news crew was following up on a report aired Friday...

Do Canadian Anti-Terrorism Act Amendments Threaten Free Speech?

[What a difference the 49th parallel makes. Ted Belman]

It’s good that the Ministry of Public Safety has decided to introduce amendments to the existing Anti-Terrorism Act of Canada. These recommendations, if approved, will strengthen measures to address the ongoing threat of radicalization and terrorism in the country. The revised Anti-Terrorism Act would outlaw terrorist training, as well as the glorification of terror, martyrdom and violence.

One would have imagined that such provisions were already in existence under Canada’s terrorism laws, as they must be considered an imperative in today’s tense political climate. Outlawing incitement to violence and prohibiting the dissemination of its mechanisms seem logical and necessary. Even so, such measures may engender considerable controversy under Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Glorifying terror and its related ideologies may appear especially controversial as...
