Al-Arabiya Director: Money Will Not Silence the Needy; 2012 Will See Further Revolutions in the Arab World

'Abd Al-Rahman Al-Rashed, Al-Arabiya director and former editor of the London daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, has published an article titled "Fasten Your Seat Belts – The Revolutions Will Continue," in which he warned that 2012 is likely to see further revolutions in the Arab world, in light of the economic crises that are troubling the region and the world at large. He added that the financial benefits that the Gulf countries are granting their citizens will not keep them satisfied for long, and that if these countries truly wish to avoid revolution they must enact political reforms.

Prince Orhan Aal Othman: "The Ottoman state did not collapse in a year or two, or even ten or twenty years. It began when Sultan Abdulhamid made his decision in his meeting with Dr. Herzl. Herzl made several requests to meet Sultan Abdulhamid, and he was refused - once, twice, and three times. The fourth time, he met him, and [Herzl] prepared the ground... he asked him for land in Palestine, to serve as a place for settlement of the Jews. When the Sultan rejected this request – that was the beginning of the fall of the Ottoman state. A decision was made that there should no longer be an Ottoman state, a caliphate, or a sultanate."

Prince Turki Al-Faisal: "There has always been foreign intervention in our affairs. Our region attracts others, whether because of its natural resources, or because it was the cradle of monotheistic religions, or for other reasons, such as the [international] shipping lines, caravan routes, and so on. All these pass through our region. This should be taken into consideration. We cannot change the geography, and therefore, even if we have problems or differences with our neighbors, they are here to stay."
