It's all gone a bit "Yes 2 AV" for the Ken campaign. On February 27 we reminded you that while Ken was lecturing Boris about his alleged "second job", Ken had done nothing for the last four years except channel his media fees through a corporation holding £319,478 safe from income tax. All hell broke loose and it was estimated by accountants that the former Mayor of London had avoided over £50,000 in income tax. As it stands these are only allegations, and there is a very easy way for Ken to shut this line of attack down: release his tax records. He is refusing to do this. We are now into the third week of this potentially career-ending reputational crisis for Ken, and still he is refusing to shed some light on his personal finances. Meanwhile Boris campaigned on regardless. The really bad news for Ken is that he is now beginning to lose friends on his own side. Firstly the New Statesman's Mehdi Hasan dug up some unfortunate quotes, then a former Labour candidate declaredthat he could not support Ken due to his "relentless cynicism" that was only outweighed by his hypocrisy. More lefty figures weighed in and Ken has yet to pass a Factcheck test. Grant Shapps put it very well in the letter exclusive we got yesterday. Still no signs of that tax return, and to think it was Ken that was campaigning with a giant chicken chasing Ken just last month.
