Speech Goes Well, Assassin Fails to Shoot

The video shows a would-be assassin pointing a pistol at the leader of the moderate Bulgarian-Turkish liberal minority party, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Ahmed Dogan, during his speech at a national party conference in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The failed assassin named as Oktai Enimehmedov holds the pistol an inch away from Dogan’s face. Dogan flinches, and Enimehmedov pauses for a second without firing, giving the politician time to push away the gunman’s hand.
Ahmed Dogan was reportedly about to announce that he was stepping down as chief of the party he founded after the fall of communism.

a farewell drink. It's also a chance to celebrate the
appointment of Martin as the new Obergruppenfuhrer

Euro Striptease: Flemish MEP’s Campaign Ad

Former Harriet Harman campaign staffer Jon Worth has gone into full-on bedwetting mode over this fun campaign video from a Flemish Christian Democrat.
The only thing Guido finds unappealing about the video is the claim that the EU is transparent…

Misery Index: Winter of Discontent

As parts of the country grind to a standstill at the first sight of snow, it is little surprise we are feeling sad this January. Detoxing, dieting, giving up alcohol – Guido calls them quitters – the New Year naysayers have been collectively bringing us down this month. Our increased misery may also have something to do with inflation being on the up, though at least unemployment is holding at 7.8%. Roll on February…

Hack Pack Can’t Get Back
Lobby “Banging On About Europe” as Stuck in Belgium

Well this is hilarious. It seems half of Her Majesty’s loyal press corp are stuck in Brussels as they attempt to get back from Dave’s cancelled Amsterdam speech through the Europe-wide snow storm:
This is certainly going to endear them to Cameron’s European strategy…

MacShane Gets Off…This Time

macshane-cakeShamed expenses cheat Denis MacShane will not be prosecuted…for swearing down a megaphone during a demonstration last year. The former Rotherham MP was reported to the police after launching a four-letter tirade in front of a crowd in October, but no further action is to be taken due to lack of evidence.
He might not be so lucky the next time the cops come calling…
