The media have thus far focused on preservation of the European Union and the Eurozone. The more serious issue, however, is the threat to European stability--and democracy. Greece is rife with coup rumors; fascism is rearing its ugly head in Italy under populist political cover; Spain could crack. As the economic crisis morphs into a political crisis, there will be no shortage of domestic demagogues and foreign adversaries aiming to exploit the worsening situation.
