Imagine what a skilled street fighter or a trained martial artist bent on bringing down a crowded jetliner could do with a golf club, or a ski pole, or a child's or souvenir baseball bat. Imagine what a team of seemingly unrelated terrorists could do with one member's bag of golf clubs.
The policy shift is inexplicably idiotic.

The media have thus far focused on preservation of the European Union and the Eurozone. The more serious issue, however, is the threat to European stability--and democracy. Greece is rife with coup rumors; fascism is rearing its ugly head in Italy under populist political cover; Spain could crack. As the economic crisis morphs into a political crisis, there will be no shortage of domestic demagogues and foreign adversaries aiming to exploit the worsening situation.
