The Money Laundering Nonsense

Personally, I do take cash. I love it. I wish I had sacks of it. Unlike those shops that refuse £50 notes, I would take bags stuffed full of them. No one has ever given me bags of £50 notes, but it is not for want of my trying to persuade them. Cash is king, for me, at any rate.
What is this nonsense about money laundering? Such laws are a nuisance for the law-abiding. If the authorities really wanted to check into money laundering, all transactions over £1 million in the London market involving Greek, Russian, Chinese or Arab money could be looked into. It seems absurd for smallish transactions to require reams of documentation, under the pretext of anti-money laundering, and my presumption is that the authorities are really interested in preventing us from collapsing fiat money by keeping our money under the bed. Emma West and the State – The State has its way (sort of)

Emma West has finally been worn down. Eighteen months after she was charged with racially aggravated intentional harassment and racially aggravated assault , she has agreed to plead guilty to the lesser charge of racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress with the original charges being dropped (http://www.thisiscroydontoday.co.uk/EXCLUSIVE-Emma-West-pleads-guilty-racially/story-19182717-detail/story.html#axzz2VKmkpyXr). The lesser charge does not, unlike the original charge, mention intent and is unlikely to result in a prison sentence. Sixty Years a Rubber Stamp By Sean Gabb
Those of us who pay attention to such things will have noticed a difference between the BBC coverage of the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and of the present Diamond Jubilee. Ten years ago, the coverage was adequate, though reluctant and even a little stiff. This time, it has been gushing and completely uncritical. There are various possible reasons for my observation. The first is that I was mistaken then and am mistaken now. I do not think this is the case, but feel obliged to mention it. The second is that Golden Jubilees are rare events, and Diamond Jubilees very rare events, and that extreme rarity justifies a setting aside of republican scruples. The third is that the BBC was taken by surprise in 2002 by the scale of public enthusiasm, and does not wish to be caught out again. The fourth is that, while not particularly conservative on main issues, we do now have a Conservative Government, and this is headed by a cousin of Her Majesty. I do not admire Keith Preston or his friend Kevin Carson. They seem to think in utterly unrealistic Romantic terms, such as class. Maybe the main one that I will criticism below is what seemed to be the most used term in the 80 minute talk that Keith Preston gave, a term I have long since loathed viz. pluralism.
