Canada, apparently, has its own growing crop of home-grown Islamic
terrorists:

It made me think. The change in social mores and behaviour, the group-
think and self censorship that's infected the once-Christian cultures of
the West is enormous. It's all happened in my lifetime:
Imagine you're living in 1970. Armstrong and Aldrin have been back from
the moon for almost a year. Heath has just taken office, with Thatcher
as education minister. MkII Leyland Minis were cheap and functional
transport (almost half a million of them had been made at that point).
Now imagine: if you stood up in the pub and said that Britain will be
under Sharia law by 2060 (first you'd probably have to explain what
Islam is, and then what Sharia is), and that Britons will be a minority
in their own land by 2050...
... and if you also be explained that by 2013 each Briton will owe in
excess of £120,000 of public debt, and that a Tory government has been
increasing this steadily since taking office...
... and you also mentioned how many MPs caught doing dodgy expenses
deals were returned to parliament again because they wouldn't resign and
their parties reselected them, and how rich one recent prime minister
has become since leaving government...
... and if you said that the current prime minister forced a change in
the law to officially recognise homosexual 'marriage' and that churches
were being forced to perform same (marriages, that is, probably not
homosexual acts in public)...
... at what point would a police officer turn up and arrest you?
The answer is THAT WOULDN'T HAPPEN. Back then we had genuinely free
speech, you see.
You'd probably be laughed at, or simply thrown out of the door. If they
were charitable, someone might have bought you a pint to 'calm you
down'.
Not one ordinary person in the bar would have taken you seriously enough
to act on what you said. They simply wouldn't believe you.
Sadly, and to the real point, they probably still wouldn't, either.
Today it's because they wouldn't care enough to act.
How things change.
