The "IPSA" quango responsible for deciding how much our MPs are paid commissioned research into the public's views. Taxpayers made it very clear that they did not support a significant increase. But IPSA has proposed an 11% hike in MPs’ pay anyway. The bureaucrats running the quango think that they have the right to spend your money on a pay rise for politicians at a time when most families have been struggling with stagnant living standards for years, whether you like it or not.

The idea that politicians abused their expenses because they could not get by on around three times average earnings is particularly silly. You know which country has the highest pay for its politicians in Europe?

Italy: a country hardly renowned for the fiscal probity of its politicians. The reason for the MPs’ expenses scandal was that a lack of transparency allowed politicians to forget their responsibility to the people who pick up the bill. Sadly IPSA has repeated that mistake. We need to stop them.

G4S rip-off

The company is reported to have let down taxpayers again. They have been caught charging for tags on criminals who were not actually tagged and even some who were known to have died. There need to be serious sanctions to deter this kind of behaviour.
