Canada’s PM Stephen Harper at Hanukkah Lighting Canada’s snap election for a new ruling government in Ottawa looms on May 2nd. Canada’s Jewish population of approximately 380,000 constitutes less than 1% of our neighbor to the north’s population, yet there are several strategic ridings (election districts) in locations like Montreal’s Westmount , Thornhill and Toronto’s North York ridings that could have an important bearing on the likely re-election of Conservative party leader, PM Stephen Harper – a strong supporter of Israel. Harper is pitted against Michael Ignatieff, the Liberal party leader, who has spent much of his career at academic settings at Cambridge University in the U.K. and in the US at Harvard University with views that are not in synch with the support of many Canadian Jews for Israel. An Israel surrounded by tottering autocratic Arab regimes dissolving into Salafist Jihadism in the so-called Arab... ‘In the United States, rules on charitable giving have made it harder for Muslims to fulfill their religious obligation,” President Obama claimed during his 2009 Cairo speech. “That is why I am committed to working with American Muslims to ensure that they can fulfill zakat.” This statement contained two falsehoods. One, as I’ve previously detailed, was obvious: There are, in fact, no American laws or rules that make it harder for Muslims to give to charity. What we have are laws against material support of terrorism — against using devices like charitable fronts to channel money to jihadists. Those laws are not directed at Muslims. They apply to everyone but are applied most often to Muslims, because Muslims carry out most anti-American terrorism. This excellent article draws inspiration for Eric Fromm’s Escape from Freedom. It also echoes the thoughts of Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer. They both espouse the idea that people with low self esteem further negate themselves by becoming “true believers” in a cause. In the end the cause is everything and they are nothing. Ted Belman By David Solway, FRONT PAGE MAG One of the most profound conundrums of our time is the passionate love affair carried on by the young inheritors of the liberal and presumably enlightened West with the totalitarian specimens of the Arab Middle East. They tend to be meltingly soft on Islam—the “religion of peace”—and, obviously, the chief beneficiaries of their misplaced adoration are the Palestinians. Our fellow travelers arrive in the Middle East’s ideological swamp where the terrorists eagerly await them, like crocodiles passing the mustard. Why Western advocates for justice, peace and democracy, as they like to style... Samson Blinded reports, The US, France, and Britain increased the intensity of their attacks on Libya and announced that they would not stop the air strikes until Gadhafi relinquishes power. Sixty Libyans were injured in such recent strike on Gadhafi’s compound in Tripoli. The West’s actions are pure terrorism: attacking another country without declaring war and without allowing it the right for reprisal attacks. It is also a case of illegal collective punishment, a military crime Britain and France accused Israel of in Gaza: pounding non-combatants to force government concessions. The West openly ignores the UNSC resolution which limited the air strikes to protection of Libyan civilians. Now if they would only let us pound the shit out of Gaza until Hamas relinquished power. ‘Small emirates jammed between anvil and hammer’ Every once in a while I revisit some videos of Sarah Palin’s great speeches. This is one of her best, if not the best. Her passion, her eloquence, her great delivery, her humour and her motivational ability are all on display. GO AHEAD, ENJOY YOURSELF. By the way, the New York Sun: Sarah Palin for the Fed? is worth reading. It acknowledged her prescience in warning about inflation when she critisized QE2 six months ago. The other falsehood was more subtle: the president’s suggestion that the religious obligation of zakat — one of the “five pillars of Islam” — is the equivalent of “charitable...An Unholy Marriage
