Preventing ‘Palestine’: Part II – The humanitarian paradigm

By MARTIN SHERMAN, JPOST
Into the Fray: Formula for an alternative to two-state-solution requires policy that depoliticizes the context and ‘atomizes’ the implementation.
Palestinian children commemorate Nakba Day.
If I am not for myself, who will be for me? But if I am only for myself, who am I? If not now, when? – Hillel the Elder,Ethics of the Fathers, 1:14
In Part 1 of this three-part series I set out the essential preconditions for implementation of a viable alternative to a “two-state-solution” (TSS) approach consistent with the long-term survival of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
To reiterate…
I emphasized that, given how ingrained the TSS-approach has become in the culture of the discourse on the Arab-Israeli conflict, generating any conceptual space for the consideration of alternative, Zionist-compliant proposals requires a dramatic restructuring of Israel’s diplomatic apparatus.
However, judging from some of the talk-backs received, the centrality of Israeli diplomacy – particularly public diplomacy – was not fully appreciated.

The rise and fall of the SNC

By Ted Belman
Foreign Policy, in a major article, refers to the SNC as “The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight”.
It contains a lot of new information about the goings on but from my point of view, it misses a major part of the storey, namely, the SNC was fully backed by the US who made certain that was dominated by the MB. The US also partnered with PM Erdogan of Turkey, an Islamist himself, to oversee developments and to keep his hand in the deal. Try as they did, they could not enable the SNC to make progress. The US is suddenly competing for influence over its most stalwart ally in the Middle East.
CAIRO, Egypt — The United States is suddenly competing for influence over its most stalwart ally in the Middle East.
Newly elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, charting a fresh course for the country both at home and abroad, chose Beijing for his first official visit outside the Middle East and Africa last week. He traveled with a battalion of businessmen and shored up unprecedented financial and political support from Chinese leader, Hu Jintao, including large-scale investments in infrastructure.
Following the high-profile, three-day visit, the Obama administration intensified efforts to relieve Egypt’s debt, including throwing its weight behind a $4.8 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Disturbing Trends At Fox News

“Fair and Balanced” is fast becoming more slogan than operating system at Fox News, and nowhere is this seen more clearly than in the way Israel is increasingly being treated and the extent to which anti-Semitism is tolerated as part of the cable channel’s conversation.
Here are a few examples:
For some time, Fox has been using Michael Scheuer as a commentator. Bill O’Reilly is most responsible for this, but Judge Anthony Napolitano also made Scheuer a regular. This pompous “head of the Bin Laden Desk” at the CIA foams at the mouth whenever he can steer the conversation to Israel.
